Loved the Three Investigators book series growing up. Nice to see it getting some love. I have most of the games on your list, but there's a few that I'll need to order for future game nights. Thanks for the suggestions!

A game that I recently discovered is “Mystery! Motive for Murder” it’s not a deduction game but a tile placement mechanic that establishes relationships with the victim. It features Edward Gorey artwork that I find fantastic for the theme.

Thanks for the excellent video! We love the Exit and Unlock series and Chronicles of Crime. One of our favorites wasn't on your list - Awkward Guests is a phenomenal game. You should give it a try.

This was great! I’m trying to write my own murder mystery board game, it’s nice to take inspiration from established ones with a good rep!

I love Awkward Guests. Its like a Cluedo/Clue flip and fill but more in depth. Also has loads of scenarios and difficulties. Dont like games that are one shots. You can also change the difficulty of you want a longer/shorter game or based on players.

Most of these have no replay values though. U r missing Letter from White Chapel, Mystery Rummy series, n Mysterium if u r a mystery fan

I don't care for app dependent games, just me. Ever play Mystery Mansion? Simple, but fun. I attempted two mystery parties. Everyone had a part and clues to a murder. They were...okay, but fun.

Thanks for making the video. From this list, which games can be replayed again and again without having the same outcome? Alt: I mean I wanted to know if a game is of "no use" once the mystery is solved.

From this list, Mansions of Madness is the most replayable. The basic storyline of the scenarios will be the same, but the app randomizes the specifics. Just about all of the other games on my list have one solution so you wouldn't want to play them again. Although you could resell or gift them (all except the Exit games).

Great choice! Since making this video, I've played Detective City of Angels cooperatively (without the Chisel) and enjoyed it. Some of the storylines are really interesting. - Melissa

Hi, is chronicles of crime worth it? I'm planning to get it but fear that since it's an internet dependent game, it would lose servers in the future, and does the stories have the same conclusion every play? Does that mean I'm stuck with 5 (for now) stories that I know the ending? I just like to know if I can play this game when I'm 60 and still be surprised
@melissadelp2967

My understanding is that it is an app dependent game. Once you download the app, you don't have to be connected to the internet to play. But, they do add new scenarios to the app and you would need to be connected to the internet to get those updates. Like many mystery/story games, there is 1 solution. The story is scripted; it will be the same each time. But you might not experience everything in just one play through. I have thoroughly enjoyed the game, but I'm OK with each scenario being a one-time experience. (Although after some time you might not remember all the details and could play with others who haven't played it before.)

We were introduced into the modern world of board gaming about 16 years ago. Did you know that 2,000-3,000 new board games are produced every year? That is a lot of new games for us to look at. :-D

I've always wanted to try Fury of Dracula. Would you class that as a mystery deducing game ?
@tantrumhousegames
@tantrumhousegames 4 жыл бұрын
It falls into the hidden movement category (which could be a type of mystery/deduction) -- but more so on the deduction aspect than the mystery aspect. There are lots of hidden movement games (Narcos, Scotland Yard, Nuns on the Run, Specter Ops, etc.). Usually they use a one vs. many mechanism and how well the person playing the "one" (Dracula in this case) performs will highly impact the difficulty (and sometimes enjoyment) of the game. I've enjoyed some hidden movement games, but they're not one of my favorite styles -- Melissa

I'm very interested in purchasing a mystery game even though the only one I've played is Clue. My question is, do you have the ability to play them more than once or is it one of those things where you'll need to pass the game along to someone else after you've solved it.
@tantrumhousegames
@tantrumhousegames 3 жыл бұрын
Most of the escape room type games and the story type games (like Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective and Chronicles of Crime) have one story/solution to each case. It's like a scripted story. So there is no variability once you complete it. There are some deduction/mystery games that are different every time because of variability in the setup or player decisions really affect the course of the game -- 13 Clues; The Search for Planet X; Betrayal at the House on the Hill. I haven't played Awkward Guests so I don't know which category that game fits into.

Nobody here's mentioned Mystery of the Abbey, which is like a better version of Clue/ Cluedo, though it obviously needs a reprint!
