Enoch Powell=spoke 14 languages,was the youngest Professor in the commonwealth.Was the leading Classicist of his generation.Brilliant Orator;invented Monetarism (Before Friedman who got the Nobel prize for it)Warne dot and resigned over the undemocratic EU in the 70s!I Militar intelligence said to of got inside the mind of Rommel better than anyone.Brilliant orator,linguist,historian,poet.Warned about the folly of unlimited immigration in the sixties!Achieved a double starred first from Cambridge(3 hour classics exam on translation of a passage to Latin.Enoch translated to Latin ,Greek and another like Ancient Greek.Finishe din an hour and a half and walked out of the exam!Greatest Parliamentariam of his generation.

Hey, I know one of those people personally. But I don't think he's the smartest person I know. Erik Demaine or Terry Tao are higher in my list.

To be honest I think it's a bit of a silly question to keep asking people: "whose the smartest person you ever met". It's like asking people "who's the most beautiful person you ever met". Just sounds silly. It's asking people to rank all the people they've ever meet which isn't a very healthy way of thinking about people in general.
