I've had three of these. Great cars! 5 speed manual always for me. I live in the corroded North where rust is a problem. 1 problem I had, was a no start, random stalling, no engine code. Took forever to figure it out. Turns out it was the evap canister... the electric system on it was malfunctioning and causing weird no start, random stalling problems. I thought it was all kinds of different things, until I accidentally figured it out.

Had a 1998 LX that got 195,000 miles before our son totalled it. Great car, always started. Started rusting toward the end but that happens after 20 years of driving in the rust belt.

One problem I've had is low idle and stalling at stops. Replaced the idle air control valve fixed it. My 98 Accord is at 250,000 miles and the biggest issue now is rust/rot. Brake and fuel lines have rotted out. expensive to have done. I do it myself but it's a pita to do in the driveway. due for another timing belt. so much work to keep going but I don't want to buy a newer used car because it will probably have just as many issues. cars are too expensive now.
@hotrod4d3 ай бұрын
Right, and all these issues would be way more expensive in a newer car! And it's harder to work on the newer models too!

4:50 I recommended install a inline transmission filter sound be a 3/8 and it usually from a Ford about $13 for a filter and also transmission cooler should extend the life of the transmission for these vehicle. I know the transmission is the weakest point of this vehicle

I have the 2002 Accord, and I guess I am lucky that the alarm doesn't go off when I reconnect the battery, but the alarm does work. I test it. The transmission was replaced when the car had about 120,000 miles. But with an aftermarket one that still runs like a dream. The car is currently at 199,500 miles. 500 more to get to 200,000. Other than minor repairs, and the transmission, the car has been super reliable. I did start getting a check engine light for the cat that would come and go about 3,000 miles ago, but I changed the spark plugs, which were very worn out and the sparkplug wires, and since then the code has never come back nor the check engine light. I have checked the computer several times since then and the code is not even stored. And the light isn't on. So I am lucky so far with the Cat. I don't have any of the other issues you mentioned though. The code is so easy for my radio that I have it memorized, but it also written down in a safe place just in case. The car runs like a dream. The most reliable car I ever had. Plan to run it as long as it will go.

@@hotrod4d you are right about the transmission . bought my accord in 2002 . it has 320 k miles now. i think what saved its transmission is my routine changes of its fluids. and like you said cleaning out the filters of the shift solenoids. im glad you mentioned that. cause everytime i clean the tiny filters my shifting immediately improves. so its been a routine of mine. i gotta change my rear control arms soon or maybe the links. dont knkw which but i will find out on my day off.

It is helpful but I’m still not sure what the issue I’m having is I was told that the year 98 for the accord has a transmission malfunction I’m not sure how to explain it basically shifts ok until the transmission heats up completely then it drops into neutral
@hotrod4dАй бұрын
That's basically what mine would do too, it started dropping gears and wouldn't go over like 30-40mph then it just wouldn't grab the gears at all. With my two Accords the clutch bands were just worn out and it wasn't going to shift anymore no matter how much I cleaned/replaced everything

@hotrod4d Жыл бұрын
Have you tried replacing the o rings for your spark plug tubes when you do your valve cover? Oil is known to seep in through those and cause misfires/ oil consumption
@ashlimoore3984Ай бұрын
When you say keep the transmission clean what do you mean by that cuz I’m having an issue and just bought the solenoids for it because that’s wat my mechanic said would fix it. But if I’m already having that issue, should i trade it in??
@hotrod4dАй бұрын
Their filter is internal so regular fluid flushes are the best thing to keep it clean. The solenoids get clogged up with clutch material once the internal bands start to wear down. Replacing or cleaning the solenoids only prolongs the inevitable unless it's just the actual solenoid that failed. I bought a used transmission and installed it myself in like two weekends but I wasn't hurrying and also filmed the whole thing. I posted the video on how to do the swap with some basic tools right on your own driveway
@roreddy935Ай бұрын
I did those too with the torque converter and I’m still having the same issue
@hotrod4dАй бұрын
@@roreddy935 it could be your clutch bands are just worn out, that's what happened to mine. Cleaning or replacing the solenoids will only buy you so much time before they get clogged with clutch material again and the clutches fail entirely. Could be another internal issue but this was my experience with the two Accords I've had
