Treasure planet such a underrated movie
@bartoszbetka4261
@bartoszbetka4261 5 жыл бұрын
It was underrated because Disney CEO wanted to kill and close "old way" animating studio so they released it in worst possible moment and lets say politely not spend much on marketing, it was perfect murder. Fun fact they had to reanimated all drawing depo for princess and a frog and lost lots of $$ doing so from scratch xD karma is a bitch... you need to fact check it, its what i heard while doing my animation project back on my college days.

Unfortunately you can blame the Disney execs of the time they only grudgingly made the movie and then did everything they could to make it fail. I loved this movie and I heard that a second movie was planned by the directors but it will probably never be.🤬

Hey now I love High Charity but with what we’ve seen from it in comparison to other much smaller stations, well I can see why it’s over looked by so many. Don’t get me wrong it’s a very beautiful place before ‘you know what’ happened. With the Forerunner dreadnought almost always being visible when ever your on the covenant equivalent of sidewalks, it really does strike you as a holy place.

High Charity is a mobile Holy City, with a forerunner dreadnought attached. Loved the atmosphere while slaughtering Covies and flood alike
@downrangecash2418
@downrangecash2418 5 жыл бұрын
Anh Triệu while that is a valid point, in-universe High Charity is actually pretty slow-moving in Slipspace (by Covenant standards) due to being so large and Reconciliation issues. The Forerunner novels go into bigger detail on this regarding the entire idea of spacetime "debt" when you're moving around Halos and Shield Worlds. So the Holy City can't actually move around wherever it wants, and is a lot slower than smaller civilian and military craft (though given the fact High Charity is the capital, everything comes to *it,* so this doesn't matter too much.)

I absolutely love the Citadel, but with the small sections you get to explore, you don't _really_ get a sense of scale. You're locked inside, only walking a few floors in each game. Of course, I know that they couldn't possibly make the entire wards, but I still would have loved it! Y'know, actually wander the streets, take in the sights, looking up at the awesome buildings, flying cards everywhere. I really wish there was more of that. Maybe someday...

Fifth place for Babylon 5 ? You did this on purpose! :)
@Anlushac11
@Anlushac11 5 жыл бұрын
I agree that Babylon Five should have placed higher on list, especially when you consider that Paramount, Rick Berman, and Brannon Braga literally stole the idea from J Michael Stracynski after he pitched Babylon Five to Paramount to see if they would produce the show. There was a lawsuit, IIRC it was settled out of court.
@762rk95tp
@762rk95tp 5 жыл бұрын
@@Anlushac11 The guy who copied B5 wasn't Rick Berman or Michael Piller, it was some network executive who moved to Paramount from NBC at least that is the rumor. JMS also pitched the show to NBC. According to JMS it is unlikely Berman or Piller were even aware of B5 pitch, too low in corporate hierarchy. Braga wasn't even close to being that high in food chain at Paramount, he started with Star Trek as intern 1990.

@Anlushac11
@Anlushac11 5 жыл бұрын
@@762rk95tp I will concede your point that Piller, Berman and Braga didnt know. There is a statement from a former Paramount employee who said Paramount sat on B5 info for months and cherry picked what they wanted. In the end neither side wanted to pursue a costly and protracted legal battle so things were settled in a amicable way. Later Majel Barret appeared on B5 and Bill Mumy appeared on DS9. I seem to remember Majel Barret Roddenberry saying she appeared on B5 as a way to try and bring peace between the two fan bases.

5 also rans, I'd put Elysium, just for the hard science of its design, sort of a mini Ringworld in concept. And Alpha station from Valerian and the city of a thousand planets, for its epic scale and amazing environments and complexity inside. Earth Space Dock from Star Trek 3: the search for Spock, so good CBS just kept using it. And of course a certain space station that looks like a small moon … that's no Moon ! Finally Station V from 2001 a Space Odyssey, the first visually impressive space station scene in history. Consider it was made literally 50 years ago and it still resonates culturally. Watch it again and be amazed, and also consider how it influenced all those that followed.

My List... 5. Deep Space Nine: I like the concept, but the coloring and dark shadows covering some details makes it less likable to me. 4. Halo Super MAC platforms; playing in Cairo Station during Halo 2 is an experience I’ll never forget, and I love the vivid design, or more or less a giant Gun in space. 3. Babylon 5: A well-crafted and excellent design from an incredible series. Unfortunately, the lack of a good model has brought it down for me, but it’s still an awesome design. 2. The Citadel: I love this design, but it could easily drop to Number 3. It is iconic, but I think that there is one better design, obviously. 1. Iserlohn Fortress: You’re probably wondering what this is at glance. It’s from an older anime called Legend of the Galactic Heroes, and in my opinion the simplistic but intimidating design has stuck with me since I watched the show. It helps that it came from (in my opinion) the best sci-fi fiction piece I’ve ever seen. And, I mean, I can’t complain about the Thor Hammer. A fleet killing laser gun that appears from underneath liquid metal? Count me in!

Fun fact. Originally Deep Space 9 was supposed to be an ancient space station that had been built by an unknown race, and over the centuries, alien races who had taken up residence on it had expanded the station by constructing further attachments and structures based on their own architectural style that would clash with what was added before and after.So finally when Starfleet took control, it was a cultural eye-sore of mismatched structural sections and architecture.

I would add Earth Spacedock from Star Trek. The big mushroom/mace shaped one. It really gives an impressive sense of scale and the level of technology that went into building it. Also Treasure Planet is awesome. Very under rated.

In my humble opinion, Treasure Planet is SUCH an underappreciated film, with such a rich universe. I'm really glad you gave it a spotlight of its own.

The station actually measures 13km in diameter and 45 kilometers in length. The Presidium Ring is 7km and the Ward arms are 43km each. And the Citadel Tower extends 3.5km then ratates 90 degrees and extends forward another 1km. So yeah. It's a massive station

Good list... Your point about DS9 going from hostile to home is spot on. The aesthetic, right from the opening sequence, also says "this isn't TNG" ;) Just watched an old ep where there's an incident with a Romulan WarBird... Sisko say's something like "...we've got 50 photon torpedoes targeting it..." and the Romulans respond with "I think it is time for us to leave." Yeah, station is much bigger than a ship. Oh, and my wife noticed something I missed... The day is 26 hours long, and writers did a great job consistently just sprinkling that in. The characters often refer to time periods like 26, 42, or 78 hours. A little thing, but shows some real thought and care.

you have a nice list Daniel, based upon the series and games you are familiar with - good job however as someone with a bit different if not slightly wider knowledge of sci-fi (including south korean and japanese) I wanted to be nice about it and merely put my own top 5 space stations list: (do notice that not all of these stations are south korean or japanese designs) 5: Citadel Station [System Shock] 4: PLANT [Gundam Seed] 3: Kukai Foundatation [Xenosaga] 2: Londo Bell [Gundam] 1: Dark Star [Lost Universe] I would very much appreciate if you would at least check these five stations and maybe if you have the time even post something about them. even a reply here would do thank you (others are of course welcome to comment on this if they so choose)

Thank you for talkin about Crescentia from Treasure planet. So many people have forgotten about that movie. Hell to be honest with you I even forgot about it until you said something about it. I've said this before and I'll say it again about Treasure Planet, it must take place either in a super large nebula or in an alternate dimension where they are able to breath actual air/gases in space (I believe they are in a nebula which has large sections of it that beings are able to breath oxygen and that is from a sci-fi book I read called Integral Tree's).

Neat list. I've seen all of them, and I appreciate your explanation for each of the choices, especially #2 & #3. Heck, I'm inclined to throw in my hat to recommend Axis from the UC Gundam franchise. It's basically an asteroid with hollowed-out centers where centrifugal gravity drums are placed for the human habitation. It was designed to exist independently in the asteroid belt in a franchise where humanity is scared to leave lunar orbit.

I've always loved the design of Earth Spacedock from Star Treks 3 and 4. Once they started just reusing it for every starbase in TNG it lost a lot of its charm, but in those original appearances it was just iconic and staggering in its scale. It's something that Yorktown in the last JJ film entirely failed to capture.

Man, I wish more of the space colonies from Gundam got some mainstream recognition. But I guess between the giant robot, and the fact they they are sort of utilitarian and realistic makes them less appealing. I personally never liked the citadel from ME, it makes so little sense to me, it's basically pure fantasy on the level of the crescent moon station from TP. I'd love to see something like Axis asteroid, or Aboa Qu from the UC timeline Gundam series covered a bit. The asteroid colonies always tend to stand out from the standard Oneal cylinders, often much more cobbled together.
@BeyondDaX
@BeyondDaX 5 жыл бұрын
The Citadel are basically a modified 'bloom' version of the colonies from the UC timeline
@kauske
@kauske 5 жыл бұрын
@@BeyondDaX Not really, no. The only similarity to an Island 3 colony is that it uses rotational gravity. By that logic stanford toruses, bernal spheres and ring worlds are all the exact same thing. The citadel is structurally bullshit to start with, those huge arms aren't held in by anything other than plot device. As it stands, the mirrors for an open-type O'neill cylinder are beyond even optimistic future material strengths at a full 1G equivalent rotation, and those have cable supports. Second, for whatever reason, it's entirely open to space, but air shields, I guess, right? It's much, much more similar to the crescent from TP than any of the real-world inspired designs in UC Gundam. But it exists in a world of bullshit technology, so you kind of expect that. I mean, Minosky physics is kinda bad in terms of real science, but "element zero" blows that out of the water in terms of silly any day. I also wonder how the arms being closed kept out the defence fleet too, since as far as I can tell, the back end is still open. I can't see anything that would cover that up and prevent them from going in the back door. But ME never had the best writing, and it only got worse as the series progressed.
