How spiritually mature are we? Sometimes I don't measure up. Like... at all. I have observed some of the most admirable Christians in my life and have learned so much about Jesus just by watching them. These are areas that I see that are scriptural and can demonstrably be shown by how some Christians respond to certain things.
Timestamps:

After 48 years of being a Christian I was thinking that my sanctification was moving along pretty good - then I saw this video and I see that while I have traveled a long road there is much more work that the Holy Spirit needs to continue in my life to even come close to these standards of spiritual maturity. Back to the Bible! Back to renewed repentence and obedience! Thanks for this.

One way to preface a teaching is to remind people of Romans 3:23, and say "I don't think I'm better than anyone. God's Word tells me that I'm just as much of a sinner as you are. - That puts us on an equal footing. I can't look down on you when God has already told me I'm not above you." It sets the tone and tells others, "No, I am not a 'pharisee,' just someone who is interested in serving God by telling the truth."

I worked with a man at the county jail who was like this. The way he spoke, did his job, acted, interacted with other employees and inmates was amazing to see. He made me to want to be a better person but also a much better Christian. I will forever thank Jesus for placing him in my life when He did.

@@Window4503 Yes. A lot of those very early Christian KZfaqrs are gone now or at least I haven’t seen them in a long time. Funny thing is, when they would start slinging rebukes at one another; the reason wasn’t even always clear to the viewers. I remember Calvin’s name coming up a lot but that’s about it.

Great list. Maturity isn't about age or experience primarily. But that does help in # 4 and 5. I would also add (especially in covid times) # 6 not being blown away by confusing teaching or pseudo truths. Knowing how to deal with conflict and trouble (makers) without getting easily worried and upset.

I myself am going through stunted growth, and this upload came at the right time. A lot comes into play in spiritual maturity. Its foundation is the Word of God, of course. God has also graced us with the Church. If we aren’t in fellowship with a local body of believers and under the authority of its appointed elders (who can hold us accountable), we can’t expect any noticeable good fruit to come out of our spiritual growth. The Christian walk is not a walk that’s meant to be nomadic. We have family members in Christ who also yearn for that same edification. I’m writing this out for the consideration of my brothers and sisters out there, and also for myself. I always forget just how detrimental it can be to be separated from the Church. We are not the Church individually, but we make up the Church as a collective body of believers. Thank you for the upload, Melissa.

I have been a Christian for many years. I feel like I fall so far short of all of the markers Melissa pointed to. I aim for them, but fall so far short. I guess that spiritual maturity is part of the sanctification process and will continue as long as I am breathing. PTL He does not give up on us.

We are on the walk, God lets us grow and learn. He sends us situations, in which we can learn, what we must. A few days ago, I prayed to God to let me learn to forgive ( this is a life long issue for me ) and two hours later a person attacked me verbally and unjust... yes, I learn to forgive. I'll pray for you.

You’re a perfect Christian, just kidding, but you truly are one of the most mature I know. Your maturity comes out when you interview pastors and teachers, in your videos, and the beautiful series you did with your daughter, which was precious. I love the five qualities, that you certainly possess, and that I try to live up to as well. WAY TO GO, Melissa, and God bless your ministry!!!!!

I am a people pleaser and have a hard time of saying no. But... I've got a lot better at that. Also I have learned to pick and choose my battles wisely. But someone's we as Christian's have to face certain confrontations and that... is something I'm still working on. Because I tend to run from confrontation and I'm not talking about physical confrontation. But more as social issues and social confrontations. I still stand firm and still stand my ground with what the word says.

Nuance in "reading the room" is not quite as simple as not offending someone. If that were the case the obvious follow up to keeping Christian's from speaking hard truths is to act offended by hearing it. "God endorses Homosexual marriage." "No he doesn't." "I am offended." "Carry on then." "Christ is the means to Salvation." "That's like... just your opinion man." "No really it's here in the Bible let me show you." "The Pope says that's not true and I am offended at you shoving your protestant belief down my throat." "Okay carry on then." "I believe in the Christ Consciousness." "Sounds a bit like the New Age to me." "I am offended that you dont think I am as holy as you, why are you so judgmental?" "Carry on then." The question is'nt how the room feels, the question is if you are able to bring fruit.

Yeah, it's definitely a balance. I think reading the room is still useful though - sometimes it really *isn't* a good time to bring up an issue, or it might change how you approach the discussion (as in having some tact or choosing language carefully), or knowing what you're getting yourself into in terms of how others might react, etc. It's still a useful thing to think about, even if I agree that the examples you gave are not the kind of interactions we should accept as good, lol.

What a refreshing word. As you stated it: people that have such gifts, attributes and/or maturity, their fruit speaks for itself. I've met believers and non-believers where they, BOMBARD me w/who the are, have and do! I believe in looking at the fruit (actions), because it always tells me the opposite. Then it becomes awkward. :0\
