@@aayushs8128 well it's a book which will either grow on you or will come to despise it completely.. IT always got and will get ambivalent reception for its ambitious, detailed and non-linear narration..If u like Dickens and Tolstoy, maybe u will like IT too...

How can this guy not include Salem's Lot? It's one of King's creepiest. Mr. Barlow's one of his greatest villains. Bar none. The way he exposes the towns dark secrets is masterful. Truly great writing 👍

An interesting selection indeed Edward! The first SK book I ever read - bizarrely - was Rose Madder, at the tender age of 10. I recall it fondly, and interestingly, haven't ever reread it. Completely agree with your opinion regarding The Waste Lands - a superb, and highly organised entry in the DT series. And yes, IT too is my favourite King novel, for the reasons you stated and many others. A true masterpiece. Thanks for sharing! Ian
@EdwardLorn7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for stopping by, Ian! ROSE MADDER is a good book, but I can't imagine starting there. My first was DOLORES CLAIBORNE. My mother wouldn't let me read King when I was younger, so I stole one of her boxes from the mail, and it was his newest book at the time, DOLORES CLAIBORNE from the Stephen King Library book club. I read that novel in three days. Never wanted to put it down. I haven't looked back since. :)

I'm guilty of having never read nor seen the movie adaptation of Dolores Claiborne. Perhaps I'll add it to the list! Thanks Edward!

+Jack Archibald I can't imagine that being anyone's first. That would have messed me all up. Likely would've never read another King book. Not that THE GUNSLINGER is a bad book, it's just a bad example of his work.

I really want to read The Terror. It’s on my list. So far, The Shining was the scariest book I’ve ever read. I’m working on the Exorcist but not sure if I’ll get though it. The idea just scares me AND I live alone so I gotta be careful.

I’ve never met/listened to/read someone who so closely mirrors my personal type five. I agree so wholeheartedly with four of these five that you’ve made me decide to go back and try Revival again. I just couldn’t into that one. I loved the beginning, but the dragging of the middle and the odd ending (an ending I do find terrifying though) just turned me off. If I could replace it, I would pick Insomnia. I know many people consider this one of his weakest but man, I just find it fascinating. I love the old geezer PIC and the DT series tie-ins, but something about the actual issue of insomnia, grief, moving on in old age, radicalized locals, and the women’s issues along with the writing style just solidifies it in my top five. Also it was the first full SK I ever read in its entirety. I was in the ninth grade. IT was read directly afterwards. I began my collection immediately and now own all of his work along with a couple first additions and rare Bachman’s. Much love, my guy. Keep up the good work.

I'm reading the old King's stuff. IT is now what I read, but I want to ask: what is new King's stuff? I am looking for mysticism and horror, not mystery/psychological realism if you know what I mean. Is he still writing horror mysticism, or is it more realism dramas? If I want psychological realism, I can read Dostoevsky or de Balzac.

King’s “It” scared me so bad I threw the book away (literally). I threw it in the trash so I wouldn’t pick it back up a week or two later thinking I can handle it( as I had already done several times). Of course a month later I bought “it” again, threw that one away too! You would think I would of learned! But, I couldn’t not know what happened to the kids. Finally bought “ it”third time was able to finish it. To be so scared that you swear, promise, curse, that you will not read another page is a talent only king has.

So, I've read 22 books by Stephen King so far, and IT is my favorite one, I love it so much, it's been a few years since I read it and I still remember how scared I was of that book. Anyway, I read Revival as well, but didn't enjoy as much as I thought I would, like it was okay, but not in my top 5. I haven't read Bag of Bones yet, should I give it a try? And btw, have you read the Dark Tower series? Cause I read the first one and didn't like it at all, but everybody tells me it's good, so idk. Great video😀
@EdwardLorn6 жыл бұрын
+Christine Jackson I've read all of his books at least twice. The Dark Tower series is odd. I hate, and I mean I absolutely loathe, two of the books, book four and six, but I loved the rest of them. The first book is nothing but an extended prologue, the second book is an introduction to the characters, and the third book is where the journey really begins. If you like the second book, I say movie ahead. BAG OF BONES is King at his emotional best. It's not really that scary but the talemisma powerful one.

Great video, totally agree with the number one, even though I despise that scene...my top 5 currently goes like this: 1. It 2. 11/22/63 3. The Stand 4. The Shining 5. Needful Things

Cleomar Maraga thanks! Nice list. THE SHINING and THE STAND rank high for me as well. NEDFUL THINGS... That ending lol. 11/22/63 was a little too heavy on the romance for me. Have you seen my top worst? Interested if you agree with any of those.

Thanks, man!! Well, I have to agree with you on the ending of Needful Things, the final confrontation between Alan Pangborn and Leland was VERY disapointing, but I loved how Lelang Gaunt managed to set everyone against each other in Castle Rock and the opening chapter was incredible ("You've been here before...") I actually saw your top worst SK books right before I watched this one, and we share the same opinion on the worst book, Wizard and Glass was so unappealing to me...ok there was at least one great scene in it, the reference of The Stand I haven't read the other books mentioned on that video but as I intend to read all of his books I'll get to those at some point...when I finish Gerald's Game I'll have read 21 of his books and hope to read Pet Sematary very soon

Cleomar Maraga WIZARD AND GLASS was awful but the beginning and end in THE STAND world were rad.

Edward, what do you think of the rest of the Dark Tower saga? I really loved The Gunslinger and The Drawing of the Three, unfortunately I didn't like The Wastelands so much and Wizard and Glass was awful, so I'm not really excited to continue reading the series :/

Cleomar Maraga if you didn't like THE WASTE LANDS I doubt you'll enjoy the rest of the series because the remaining books are a lot like that one. That being said, I would try WOLVES OF THE CALLA just to see if you enjoy it. I will warn you, though, SONG OF SUSANNAH is almost as bad as WIZARD AND GLASS. If I did a top ten worst, it would definitely be in the bottom five. The last book makes up for both shitty books, in my opinion. It's the only fantasy series I've ever enjoyed.
