The Ford Heritage Centre WAS in Dagenham but is now closed for property development. Some cars are stored on site, and others returned to their owners. With the current financial climate Fords won't open another site, not whilst people are potentially losing their jobs in the car industry. But the Heritage Centre was not open to the general public anyway, only factory tours.

Yes I believe so. They use the same basic measurements of LYP and then go from there. Did the same for the GL version too. These Escorts are very popular models. The Corgi one was a best-seller for them.

Well the Skyline is great. Just amazing performance. No heart or character though.

@Calvertfilm I always thought it stood for Experimental Research, but I could be wrong. Either way the only one I ever owned was the XR3 - the non-injected earlier version. I'd give anything to have that car back *sigh*

nah only one was ever made, its worth a absolute fortune, featured in fast ford few months back, some some blokes museum, ive got a few pics of it, a google image search should bring it straight up, seeing princess diana getting into it with a young harry in the back!

Not that big on Fords but I can say this , the cosworth is one of my ultimate wet dreams :D I wished they were sold here in the states :(

Cool! Im stuck with my 106 untill i start my new job and get some money. I actualy quite like it, good fun, just too slow. Its only done 24,000 as well. Probably going to go for a Fiesta st next.

Well spotted. Yeah, Corgi measured this car for the 1/43rd model. Also Sunstar too when they made the 1/18th scale models but for some annoying reason they put this number plate on the yellow model! I didn't get paid for taking time off to allow them to measure my car (took all day), so the least they could do is put my plate on the correct colour car. At least Corgi were excellent in that respect, and all others. Corgi are the tops, and the model I prefer as it is more accurate.

Sunstar have just released the RS1600i and I have heard the rumour of a S1 model in the pipelines

Even though mine was built in Germany, some were made in the UK. Certainly certain elements were - my dad worked on the tooling for engine components. Much of the design elements were UK. So to me I feel I can count it as a British car.

Yeah, sold for loads of money a few years ago didn't it? I've heard there were a few more made but I don't know for sure. One cropped up on eBay a while ago.

Actually it has nothing to do with style, it isnt just some big spoiler they stuck on for show. It was designed perfectley to give the best amount of downforce. No wonder he was never approached for the new top gear

to be honest i would fo too, just depends on your budget tho, a 106 gti is about as much fun as you can get for the money ;) i actually own a clio 182 now which is badly build and unreliable, still woudnt swap it tho lol

I honestly wish they'd bring back the Escort Cosworth. Improve the aerodynamics, bump the stock BHP to 300, and just let it rape the rallyworld again.

the RS1800 was more memorable(and more valuble now)same as RS2000 without the Beak and smaller engine.(Rothmans)

I doubt that Ford will bring back the Escort name, at least in North America. It is a totally different car here and doesn't have nearly the following as the European models do. On that note, Ford should come up with a modern equivalent of the Cosworth. Something to compete with the STI and the EVO X.

my 1st car was a 106 1.5D that was SLOW lol, my 2nd car was a 106 gti which is faster than the fiesta st (my dad owns one) only downside is not much space and its made very very cheaply lol ;)

Dont get me wrong top gear is a realy good programme and always was, but nowadays, all they go on about is supercars such as ferrari's, lambo's and what not. But these are afforable performance cars and thats what is more people will buy, not everyone is a millionaire.
