My boyfriend and I went as Maverick and Charlie last year for Halloween and we were with some friends at a Halloween bar party when he decided he was going to recreate this scene. I was mortified and yes, the entire bar joined in to sing.

This scene of Top Gun reminds me of the time I was deployed to Al Udeid,Qatar in 2013. I remember every Friday night they had karaoke and some of the guys I hung out with wanted to serenade me and two other girls with this song. When the guys finished the song, everyone cheered and loved how they performed the song. But whenever I hear this song I will always think back to this time.

filming this scene was actually quite hard because the pilots that were in the officer's club kept changing the lyrics to some very saucy words. This meant that the director had keep reshooting the scene and reminding everyone to stick to the lyrics and keep it clean.

I haven't seen the sequel yet but am still trying to figure out why Val Kilmer who looks like hell and sadly lost his voice to cancer was asked to be in the sequel but Kelly McGillis who is around Kilmer's age wasn't asked because she looks her age and gained weight. She was their instructor, highly intelligent with a very accomplished resume. They could have cast her as a high ranking officer even just for a cameo instead of making it look as if there was no role for her without Maverick as her boyfriend.

There's something really cute and endearing about Kelly McGillis's face at 1:00 that gives me the feeling that she was VERY attracted to Tom Cruise, just listening to him singing (which is a mark of awesomeness in itself.) I've always admired actors who can sing and/or dance, and while he's no Bill Medley, that's still a perfect A for effort in the moment, with Goose to back him up, only to have the rest of the officers join in was the icing on the cake. Cruise and McGillis had such wonderful chemistry throughout this film.
