One of the CTCs that I have seen for the position of a quant researcher fresher in Gurgaon is 90L-1.2cr per annum. The breakup goes as 4L signon bonus 6L non cash benefits 30L minimum guaranteed bonus 50L fixed salary 30L-60L performance bonus So the minimum compensation for 1st yr - 90L And the maximum compensation for 1st yr - 1.2cr

@@arkasarkar3901 yes, only CS/EE benches of old IITs and similar league colleges, 8+ cpi (unsure of this part though) or a CF rating of 2000+ or top ratings of competitive coding platforms, not sure of all the factors but think of similar levels for eligibility

I work for one of the HFT firms as a cpp developer, we are a team of 5 people all from different geographies. I am strongly agree to all the points shared in the video. The things we focus most are: 1. Multithreading (it introduces lots of unimginable problems into the system) 2. Memory management 3. Inter-Process communication 4. Whatever we are doing, we have to provide the reasoning behind that. 5. Code reviews are extremely critical.

Hi Soumyajit. Thanks for making such a detailed video on this topic. I'm currently a CFA level 1 candidate and i really want to pursue a career in algo trading/research. But I don't have a tech background. What all roles do you think I can start with easily as a finance fresher in order to enter in the industry and gain experience. Also, there's this 6 month course - EPAT. If possible could you make a review of it? It's mainly focused on python and algos. But, my main concern is that is it sufficient along with CFA, considering there are guys out there from core tech backgrounds working on C++ & Java? Thanks 👍 🙏

Hello Bhai, I have a question, is there are any consequences if decline job appointment letter after accepting (if appointment letter mentioned specific class as " if I don't join on said date, need to pay damages and need to appear in court). Please clarify - Thanks

Typically this should not be written in the appointment letter. As it is illegal and not at all binding. You can decline to join.

Quant researchers need heavy maths and coding. But I believe a Quant developer is the one who works much more parallel to an SDE. I don't think you need to even get into Quant researcher role to become a SDE at FAANG. You can try for Startups for SDE position and then keep trying for FAANG. It's not at all that complex to get a test link from them. I hope any of it helps. All the best

@@arpitpachori5746 Actually the thing is quant researchers are paid over a crore in NK securities that hire only from IITs... And I m trying hard to get into old iit...I have to give jee this year... I know the work lyf balance is not good at nk securities or such companies...so I dream to get into old IIT...then for 5 6 yrs work in nk securities nd earn good amt then move to faang at sde 2 position after that ... 😅bht aage ka soche but thats my goal ...so just wanted to know ki will someone working as quant researcher at nk securities for few years become sde2 at faang or will have to start from sde1 position...

@@shivamsrivastava664 Oh, that's great Shivam. But I see you are mentioning NK Securities only. Is there any specific reason apart from Package? Because almost all the firms provide that hefty package to the Quant researchers. Also, if you want to go for a FAANG. You can begin from a Quant Developer role which involves DSA/C++ at its core and this could help you gaining much better hands on experience for future targets at FAANG. Lets say you worked at any HFT as a Quant developer and worked on IMPLEMENTING algos created by Quant researchers, then your most of the skills would coincide with what SDEs do in specific i.e Implementing algorithms using data structures and use of OS concepts. Now you worked for lets say 2 years as a Quant dev at Tower Research and went for a FAANG to work at. So FAANG would consider your DSA experience and what have you done in that time duration. But working in a Quant researcher position, you'll have to deal with a lot of data analysis, time series, models training, financial analysis, mathematics but it won't leverage a lot of DSA as it needs to create the ALGOs which will be implemented by Quant devs in the pipeline. Conclusion: FAANG companies won't be that interested in your skills of data analysis (given you're applying for SDE) or Time series stuffs (which you'll work on that duration of 2-3 years at Tower Research being a Quant Res). They'll be interested in your Data structures, Algos, High level design, C++, JAVA, which you'll be much more exposed to while working as a Quant developer. So if you plan to work for any FAANG as SDE. You can either start from SDE-1 through on campus which you'll get eventually being from IIT or any top tier college and then move to SDE-2 with experience and they are actually earning very well with much better work life balance than Quants. I hope it helps. And you can make crores eventually in this domain but the work life balance is really hard here. The rest upto you. Give you best for JEE and you'll enough paths in front of you to take. Good luck. :)

Don't skip college. Alot of paths will be blocked if you don't go. This mostly happens in America or the west. In india you absolutely need a degree (how else would they filter out people)

You will not receive mentorship, because your mentor has negative incentives for helping you (because bonus depends on outperforming your own peers). Maybe for the first year, they will allow you to be an average employee, but you are expected to aim for higher bonuses the following years. Is all that money worth it?
