These are the best hydrangea varieties and I love hydrangeas! I live in a climate that requires a bit more thought and care to grow these beautiful specimens. I want them in every spot in my yard including areas where it gets full sun and lots of shade. I have learned through experience and much trial and error that certain varieties can handle the heat and a few that prefer shady areas in my zone 6 climate with little humidity and 100 plus degree temperatures for the majority of the summer. With enough water, a little fertilizer, the right gardening zone, and the right sunlight conditions you can have beautiful hydrangeas throughout your yard. I will be highlighting Macrophylla (mophead), Paniculata, and Oakleaf Hydrangeas. I hope you like this video, find it helpful, and go buy yourselves a few to try out. I'm thinking of planting a hydrangea Merritt supreme in almost complete shade under a gazebo I am in a 6-7 zone ,it will get some filtered light coming in on it in the afternoon, I'm going to sit it there for awhile. To see how it does before planting, what kind of soil should I use ? I'm also planting blue hydrangeas in the planter next to it ,& want to keep them blue do you have any tips?

Acid acid for blue blooms. I use holly tone, compost, plant tone and rose tone for my hydrangeas. It takes work to get blue blooms. Make sure they are moist. Is your spot protected for your Merritt? They are temperamental. Late frost kill the buds sometimes. Another alternative is Serrata ah ha hydrangea. They are much more reliable bloomers. Anyway, they turn purple before blue but acid is what helps them get that blue bloom. Good luck!

I have acidic all purpose potting mix & aluminum sulfate by hi-yield & sphagnum peat moss by sunshine for the soil to be planted in a container which is 3 ft. Long 1 ft. Wide, 1 ft. High ,they will be planted under a completely covered gazebo which they will get a little light from all sides & it will be cooler in there in the summer, how many hydrangeas should i plant in the container,I'm not going to plant them till we start having 50 degrees or higher at night which ,we're getting pretty close

I'm on a gardening site and everyone says the same, Endless bummer. It seems like everyone is having problems with them. I had a beautiful broomstruck that flowered for years and then just decided to die on me. I'm now looking for different varieties.

Try the tough stuff Serrata hydrangea. They are more cold hardy and bloom reliably. I’m planting them this year
