Some first runs of the new 25 HP Suzuki Outboard engine on my 1959 Nylox boat. I definitely think there is a lot more speed to be found in this setup, and will update with what sort of fine-tuning I was able to come up with.

It would be cool to see you towing that boat with Herbert somewhere long distance

Beautiful little retro pocket rocket (relatively speaking of course) that sips fuel. 🤩👍

Looks just like the mid 50’s crestliner I just inherited and starting to restore. Loving your videos on the build so far. Thank you!

I love it! Im restoring a 1966 Ragatta speed boat. I need to replace the Mercury 950 "Tower of Power" 2 stroke.

I always like vintage boats and this is a cool video. Only thing is, there is absolutely no way this entire boat with you and your gear with fuel weighs just 600 pounds.

I really love your hull, it looks efficient at low planing speeds.
@SmallCraftCruising3 жыл бұрын
yes! the 25HP outboard is a little heavy, but if I was not looking for as much speed, I could easily get by with a 9.9 and just putt putt along 10-13 mph
@corvairkid173 жыл бұрын
I would consider overpropping it and lowering the rpm and top speed. It really looks like a "fast" semi displacement hull, and not a full -on planing hull imho. Matching the "peak torque" rpm to a speed slightly lower than current, like 25mph. This could possibly save a lot of fuel and make it more pleasant at cruise. Bad for racing and watersport, but good for conversation and economy. A lot of prop sizing guides are for full planing hulls, and I'm thinking yours is like a semi planing hull. What I'm saying is; I bet even if the motor was screaming.... You'd get like 33mph. Just my guess!!! And I mean no offense or anything. I'm just saying it may be a relatively "nicer" boat if you overprop it and lower the rpms instead of raising them.

Great boat! I have the same Nylox hull in my backyard & am considering putting a lot of work into it. Did you ever get the top speed up from 30? From the 5,500RPM on the tach you can use a lot more pitch on the prop and it might benefit a bit if the motor is raised up a bit. That is a 15" shaft motor I hope. I really hope you respond.

Definitely deserves more power. Something in the 40-60hp range, but an oldschool motor that's lightweight. Ideally you should be able to cruise comfortably on plane at 3000rpm, with 4000 being your normal "get around" speed and 5000 being your high-speed cruise with WOT, of course, being WOT. Also, what exactly is considered a "small craft" when they give small craft advisories?

how much time do you get on the water with the engine at wot? does it eat gas? ;
@SmallCraftCruising Жыл бұрын
It barely sips the gas. A video showing fuel consumption will be out this summer

15 miles per gallon i would guess.

Yeah these newer four strokes with efi barely use any fuel compared to the older motors 2 strokes with carburetor and points for sparks I upgraded from 1989 20 hp evinrude to 2021 25 hp Yamaha outboard 4 stroke I noticed the major difference with fuel consumption used way less fuel

Hello, I've just ordered a Suzuki DF 30hp ATHL and I need to know big should I do the transom?? Can you tell me the lengh of yours?(if you have a long shaft type) By the book they say 508mm, but I ve mesured with a Suzuki 5hp and it has almost 590mm. I can't find a 30hp to measure. Can you help me figure it out? I need a lengh of your boat transom. Thank you
@SmallCraftCruising2 жыл бұрын
to my knowledge, all 30HP outboards are minimum 20 inches shaft length. I know this because I wanted more than 25 HP for my boat, but I have the old-style 15-inch transom, and the biggest engine available in a 4-stroke was the suzuki 25HP outboard. so almost all of the 30 HP and above will be either 20-inches or 25-inches as far as i remember
