I hope you enjoy this episode! It's so great to look back over some of our last videos and all the super clever uses of space. This week, after a strict lockdown, New Zealand has just moved to level 1, which means our country is (for now at least) totally Covid free. This is super exciting and means that we will be able to start filming new video tours locally. So, brand new tiny house tours coming soon! Love, Bryce & Rasa

Loving this idea--a highlights reel for whatever specific topic! Totally beats having to plow through your enormous library of video trying to find that *1* bit of inspiration...not that I don't enjoy going through them all, but it is WAY too easy to get distracted and completely forget what I was originally looking for! And a genius way of crafting "new" material when getting new footage is hampered by health restrictions. Bravo!

So much this. I don't think I'd ever go tiny myself because of my lifestyle and pack-rat-ishness, but I LOVE the design philosophy behind tiny living. No wasted space, everything in its place, and give everything utility. I hope to use some of these fascinating solutions if I'm ever fortunate enough to design my own house.

I watched this video specifically for ideas for my normal (if slightly small) sized house. The only issue here is that every choice they make is a compromise and many of them just arnt practical or what someone not living in a 300 sqft space would consider a reasonable compromise. Making simple tasks you do every day more of a hassle so that it takes up a little less room. In a tiny home it is a requirement, but if you didnt /need/ to roll a wardrobe out of your shower every day, unlatch and hook up a ladder to get to your bedroom or crawl through a hole to get clothes would you choose to do it anyway? most people dont have full sized houses so that they can cram every inch with even more stuff, but because having a bed at normal height with a dresser or closet is more convenient than needing a stepladder to get into bed so you can put the dresser under it or lifting the bed up everyday.

@@liawatson5789 What a judgy and snooty question. That's like asking why anyone but someone already stuffed full of food would choose not to binge an entire cake 🙄 Most people won't choose to be wasteful and unhealthy just because they can. Maybe not everyone wants to deal with a ton of wasteful space and random junk. Owning stuff weighs on one's mind, the less stuff I own and the less space I use the more relaxed and focused I feel. TONS of people with good money choose to switch to tiny living, like do you even watch this channel? Get a clue

Why would any one live in a tiny house? I don't understand!
@shmruda8564
@shmruda8564 3 жыл бұрын
Imma Ben Makhlouf List of the Pros of Living in a Tiny House 1. It is easier to own your home when you live in a tiny house. The ownership rate of people living in a tiny house is 78%. For those living in a traditional house, the ownership rate is just 65%. Many of those who own their tiny house don’t have a mortgage either. 68% of homeowners with a tiny house have no mortgage at all, compared to the national rate of 30% of U.S. homeowners. 2. Tiny homes provide all the modern conveniences. Just because the home is tiny doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice the conveniences of modern living. You can have air conditioning in your tiny home. You can have the space needed for a washer and dryer. Some tiny homes even have a second level available in them for a private sleeping space. The customization options for a tiny home are almost the same as they are for standard homes. 3. It is much cheaper to build. The average cost of a standard house in the United States is $272,000. The average cost to build a tiny home is just $23,000 if it is built by the owner. Even if the work is contracted out to professional builders, the cost to build a tiny house is still 80% lower than the cost to build a standard home. That makes it much easier to save money because maintenance costs are also lower. 1 in 3 tiny house owners have at least $10,000 saved for their retirement. 4. Tiny homes are portable. If you own property, then you can build your own tiny home and have a great place to live at a discount. One of the advantages of a tiny home is that they can also be placed on a trailer, much like a fifth wheel, so you can have a vacation home wherever you travel. Although there are vehicle registration issues to consider with a portable tiny home, many families have the option to travel full-time while still having the option to work from home. 5. It offers reduced maintenance requirements. If you are living in less space, then you are going to spend less time cleaning. You’ll spend less on the cost to replace a roof or update the exterior paint. Those who have embraced the tiny house movement discovered that they have much more free time because there is less space that needs to be covered. 6. You’re going to save plenty of cash. Alexa Nota calculated her total cash savings for Travel Well Magazine after transitioning into a tiny house lifestyle. In just rent and utilities alone, she is saving $560 per month. Compared to renting, they are paying $547 per month more when all expenses were considered, though she estimated that their truck and hose would be paid-off in 3 years. There are options to work in exchange for free camping sites to limit site rental costs, which means the long-term savings is quite high. 7. It provides opportunities for less consumption. Living in a tiny house means being conscious of every purchase that you make. If you do not have room to store something, then you can’t have it in your tiny home unless you sacrifice space for it. That means your wasteful spending goes down. Your overall waste goes down in the kitchen. You begin looking for ways to recycle items instead of throwing them away. That means you’re always looking to reduce your consumption instead of worrying about how much you can afford. 8. Energy efficiencies are built into tiny homes. When you have a smaller space to heat or cool, then you spend less on the energy required to make yourself comfortable. Although extreme conditions that make you uncomfortable in a standard house will also affect you in a tiny home, you’ll find that the actual processes for heating or cooling are very similar to what you’d find in any other home. The energy requirements are so low, in fact, that mobile solar panels and a good high-capacity battery could take you completely off the grid. 9. It doesn’t require a septic system. Tiny homes built in the city can be connected to a sewer system for modern plumbing needs. The advantage here is that remote tiny houses don’t require a septic system to provide modern convenience. With a composting toilet, you can go anywhere without worrying about your connections. If you use the toilet full-time, a couple living in a tiny house may need to clean it out about once every 6 weeks. You can also equip a black water tank and plumbing capabilities for a traditional flushing system, even on a fully portable tiny home. 10. There is plenty of space for your pets. Although you’re not going to be able to live with three dogs and two cats when you embrace the tiny house movement, you are not excluded from having pet companionship. A cat (or two) in a larger space works just fine. If you have some outdoor space, a small dog breed works well with a tiny house too. For those who love to travel, the tiny home, acting as a fifth wheel, makes it a lot easier to take your furry friends with you on your next adventure. 11. It gives you the chance to splurge on building materials. Because you have less space to worry about with a tiny home, you can splurge on certain items with your building budget. You could upgrade your floor to hardwood or bamboo flooring for a minimal cost. You could add stainless steel appliances without much issue. You could even opt for more exotic woods for your interior. Although space will always be precious in this type of home, you also have more personalization options then you might normally be able to afford.

I love your whole series, and admire all the storage options compiled. As a 64-year-old, I have to squirm when I see gigantic stair treads, as when we age, climbing up something so steep becomes less possible, despite the massive storage drawers or laundry machines incorporated. I would love to see Tiny Houses address the needs of the aging population more, as I'm still not throwing in the towel for new adventures.

Ah more fuel for my conference call doodles! I've recently challenged myself to do a 2m x 3m space and I'm having a lot of fun playing with the raised bed thing! This channel has inspired a lot of DIY changes in our flat too - we've gone from like 0 storage to a ridiculous amount over the past year and I'm having so much fun with it!

Bryce and Rasa, well done! This is the video that I didn't realise I badly wanted -- one focusing on all the clever storage ideas. Great job. Don't want to nag or be demanding, but I remember many other tiny houses you presented with equally clever ideas, so I'm sure you have enough material already for another "anthology" some time down the line...? Maybe? Anyhow, this was fabulous, I loved it. Thanks as always!

I would love some more questions on the type of insulation people used and how happy they were with results. Having spent time in metal caravans the open ventilation can't be be fun all year round in some climates.

I totally concur! One of the ones here I recall seeing before that stuck in my head as def wanting in future design, is the one that has the large horizontal window in kitchen, where window opens to outside deck with bar stools. There's also a couple of other designs I have seen previously that ties in the living areas with the outside deck. Both of those aspects will drive my future design

classic ambo yes insulation would be great! As I’m about to refit a schoolie and am atm just winging it as to what to insulate with as any vids I’ve seen it mentioned were more about protecting from cold than heat (I’m in australia)

We are a family of 7 living in a 900 sq.ft. tiny house on a foundation. We are constantly looking for new ideas to best utilize space in order to give every family member the ability to own their own items. This “best of” compilation is appreciated! We always enjoy your show. My 9 year old is already committed to designing her own tiny house so when she graduates from college she can “owe no one money” and work on the road.

Great job Bryce & Rasa, I think all of the home owners should get Gold Stars. There was not a bad idea in all of them. I think the ones with the raised floors to create under floor is a clever idea. Plus the beds that raised is exceptional for a senior that may not be able to climb stairs very well. It also means the bed does not have to be made every morning. lol. The hidden shower was an exceptional idea. But all in all anyone would be hard pressed to find fault with any of them. Great job reporting. Be safe.

This is such fantastic and creative inspiration! Perhaps there are other past videos with categorical ideas you could pull from while you await opportunities to travel again such as tiny house bathrooms, kitchens, decks/porches, downstairs bedroom designs, discussions from your home owners on where to find places to park a tiny home, ideas for planning the type of home to suit ones needs and how to process this selection (you’ve shown such amazing variety of build types!), considerations when planning a build and what home features to include and what to base this on... oh so much good info in all the past years of videos that’s easy to forget! Keep reminding us of all the good stuff that lurks in the archives! Even long time followers can view the videos in new ways as you hone in on various aspects of tiny living! Bryce, you are a gifted interviewer and the new historical themed video was fabulous! So happy to see this video today! Thank you both for your wonderful channel!!

Thank you for showcasing these, Bryce! I don't live in a tiny house, but my house is too small for my family. This has become especially apparent now that I work at home, but I am a cook in a house with a kitchen that the builder made for retirees who don't cook much. As a result, a lot of my cooking items are in my garage. The pull out pantry in Leah's house inspires me, because our pantry is too small for 4 people (including my special diet that is different from the rest of the family). I can incorporate her roll out unit in mine and maximize the space. Thank you!

This is one of my favourite tiny house videos as I mostly adore them for their clever storage options. As regular houses get more and more unaffordable, people will have to think about better ways for storage so that they can use their spaces in a more efficient way. A lot of the old houses have way too much unused space.
