I love how varied your tastes are. Books still seem to inspire childlike wonder in you, and I'm glad to say it's contagious. While I agree with many of your opinions, I sadly didn't enjoy The Poet very much. I'm going to give the sequel a shot, though. Maybe I was just in a bad mood when I read it.

Someone who knows and loves Tad Williams too!!! It's so rare to hear his books mentioned! Memory, sorrow and thorn was my favourite fantasy series after LotR. I must re-read it now that there's a sequel. And I must read Otherland. I read the first volume some years ago but didn't manage getting to the rest.

So I'd never read Louis L'Amour... and not to brag, but one of my beta readers suggested I read him because she thought my writing style was a lot like L'Amour's. Obviously curious from that, I checked him out. I'm not into westerns at all, but he wrote a book called The Walking Drum set in 10th century Byzantine (modern day middle east). It's a little more along the lines of my reading interests. And it's really good. Great combination of historical context, fictional characters, and vibrant description. I'm sure Brian has read it. But anyone else looking for a good read, I'd recommend it.

Louis L'amour is one of my favorite authors as well. I keep returning to his books. I really like how many different styles of books you read. Have you read anything by Georgette Heyer? She writes very historically correct fiction. A few of them is based on real historical persons and their lives.

How can your number one (#1) Fantasy series author of all time not be in your top 10 (17) authors of all time? Epic fantasy is your favorite genre. J. R. R. Tolkien should, logically, be in there somewhere.

I have never seen you give a mention to Moorcock directly in the videos I have watched from you. Considering the time period you were getting into fantasy novels I would have thought you would hit Moorcock before Thieves World. Also the world of Song of Ice and Fire is heavily fleshed out with Lovecraft, Moorcock, and others, with Valyria easily being a stand in for the Dreaming City Martin quickly admits these influences and his homages to them in his work. So I guess where I am going with this is I was wondering if you disliked Moorcock or I just missed videos where he comes up. He was a big influence to some of your fantasy favorites and the main force behind most new wave fiction emerging though his work on things like New Worlds magazine.
