The Mario Kart/Party games aren’t my #1 favorite games, but I love them for the same reasons as your #1, because of all the fun I had playing them with my friends. This list not only showcases a lot of really good games, but it tells us a lot about you, and I’m glad you made this list.

My personal list. 10. Spyro 2/Crash 3. I couldn't choose. Two immensely nostolgiac games for me that still hold up wonderfully. 9. NieR. 8. New Danganronpa v3 7. The World Ends With You 6. Yakuza 0. A wonderful experience that details the beginning of both Kiryu and Majima's stories, with a wonderfully written main story and amazingly hilarious sub stories, with the serious and the humor balanced absolutely perfectly, and complimented with wonderful beat 'em up gameplay 5. Kingdom Hearts 2, much for the same reasons Josh gave. 4. Xenoblade Chronicles. 3. Steins;Gate. A wonderfully emotional story that shows one man's complete desperation after his mistakes with time travel makes absolutely everything go horribly wrong. It balances the emotional second half with a downright hilarious first half, with a lovable cast of characters. 2. Umineko no Naku Koro Ni. An absolutely ingeniously written story that combines murder mystery and fantasy and makes you unsure which genre it truly is, while also balancing romance and tragedy, and hiding a lot of its answers in the plain spoken dialogue that you will never notice or realize your first time reading. It has a cast full of assholes, which you will almost certainly love by the end of it, its story absolutely tears at my heart when I look back on it.... God damn, it's just so fucking good, and everyone should read it. Also backed by one of the absolute greatest soundtracks and voice acting I've heard. 1. Ace Attorney Investigations 2. Actually flawless in my eyes. I'm not sure how to really explain why I love this game so much Sorry, I could only really articulate my justification for a few of them :P

I was glad to see Gauntlet Dark Legacy on the list, it’s a timeless classic that brings back so much memories of when I played it when I was little and I still have the copy of it on my shelf to this day.

That LP of KHII FM is actually what made me try playing the games again, after I started to hate them for no real reason. I had been thinking of giving the games another chance at the time, and, I bet myself that I could beat the game before Josh beat it. It rekindled my love for the series. (I won that bet, by the way. haha)

I feel the exact same way about Kingdom Hearts 1, like how you feel with your #1 I admit that it’s flawed, but it has greatly influenced me and I have strong memories connected to it

I remember Gauntlet. It was a favorite in the arcades and when it came out on home console, I couldn't wait to play it. Its one of few games that I completed 100% and still kept playing afterwards just because it was pure fun.

I need to play these games. Seriously, my library consists of Dark Souls Remastered and Sonic Forces, and while one of those is undeniably great, I am in DIRE need of an upgrade.

My favorite game is Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time because of my big brother Damion. We didn’t really get along very much when we were little. If anything I was convinced that he hated me. But when I asked him if he could read to me the games dialog (I was 5) he sat down beside me and taught me how to play it from start to finish. Sure there were times were I got really scared and he would sit down and play the level, but he always wanted me to watch him and didn’t really mind it if I pointed out questions or traps he didn’t see coming. That will always resonate with me.

Was really happy to see Gauntlet Dark Legacy at #1. I love that game and everything in it. I still play games like Diablo 3 and Path of Exile trying to mimic the dungeon crawling i had in DL. Nothing ever feels as, well, right to me as the time i have spent playing it. From the Realms to the soundtrack it just feels right. It isn't my absolute favorite, but it is really up there. While the Gauntlet from 2014 was okay, it didn't do what Dark Legacy did right. Can only hope some studio picks up the licence or makes a spiritual successor to Dark Legacy.

I completely understand what you mean. My top two favorite games is Heroes 3 of Might and Magic and Sly Cooper 2. Both of them because they were the games that truly united me and my big sister. We played those games so much when we were younger, and we still get that itch to play it once in a while. This was a great list! Cannot wait to see more future work!

I agree, Majora’s Mask is always going to be my favorite Zelda game because of how personal it is. You know the people of Termina. You know their struggles, their hopes, their dreams, their ambitions. They’re your friends, partners, allies, all of them. And you help make their world a better place just by being there. You know, Gauntlet Dark Legacy is the kind of game that really gets stronger because of the memories one associates with it. I had a friend as a kid, we were pretty much like family, and one thing the two of us always loved to do together was play some gauntlet. I've pretty much played that game with almost everybody I know. It's a simple, mindless game, but it's a game that can make some of the greatest memories. Yes, it is my favourite game of all time too.

There! That is the best reason for a number one game. While I'd struggle for hours on end to even narrow down 30, a game like Golden Nugget 64 stays in good light for me is what fun my family and I had with it. We all have games that we treasure and some of them weren't great or above the average. But what made them was the fun and memories we have of those games. Great to see you've done something so difficult, I could only wonder how you managed a one per series setting with how many franchises you loved over the years.

Hey Josh. Fantastic video about great games.. My favorite video game of all time has to be the halo series. Halo 3 specifically... Or Reach. Those two, like you, bring me back to so many wonderful memories with online folks I'm still friends with to this day. Doing the campaigns on legendary with three of my friends, and trying to grab all of those skulls, grabbing all of our available xbox live friend lists into chaotic customs, It was my childhood highlight.. It had a great balance of difficulty and unlike the original NES version, you're health wasn't always going down. So while it's not my fav nor would it make my top 10, I still like it. I guess I am the odd man out when it comes why I love my fav game. It is for game reasons and not the memories because my fav memories aren't from playing video games. My fav game is Eternal Sonata (XBOX 360 version).

Legend of Dragoon is mine because my family all bonded over it during hard times and we all cried over a certain death. It still gets to me because of the memories. The story falls apart at disk 4 and it's not the cleanest looking game but I still love it because of how it impacted my family.

With what you said about the #1 pick, i feel the same way on why Crash Team Racing is my favorite game of all time, it was the very first game i ever played, it was the first true game that got me into gaming big time. I will never stop playing CTR, I can always have a blast playing it; it is one of the games that i can always pick up and play and never get bored with it. Even when there are many more games out there in the world, CTR will always be there for me and i will cherish every moment i have with it. And when i heard that there's finally a remaster, and the fact that the reveal trailer got posted online on my own birthday December 6, needless to say i was screaming and squealing so loud for so long. I'm super excited for that, and will go immediately to buy it when it comes out. It has me that excited!

If I may make a suggestion for a game for you to try down the road, I suggest you play Toukiden 2. It's made by the same guys who made Dynasty Warriors but they went for a more story-based adventure rather than mowing down whole armies. Yet it's still just as fun once you get the hang of it

Majora's Mask has to be my favorite game of all time, that whole game was one big MOOD. Not many games have made me shed tears, and no game ever fills me with constant joy as I replay it over and over again. The 3 day time system actually gave the game some weight and actual fucking stakes (inverted song of time and Song of time now withheld). And its really fun mastering the system and going through the cycle doing everything you need or want to do with plenty of time to spare. There's pretty much never been another game with this setup and mechanic that I've ever heard of, which gives it major points in uniqueness. The games presentation ditched the normal layout of OOT and it's normal, organic colors and went with a more wacky, psychedelic Color scheme, All the areas look distinct, even if the layout of the land is a clusterfuck. And the original music to this game not in OOT? Just Gold. I do wish something just as unique would be made. But companies and devs are too safe nowadays so I don't expect it to come soon, or ever. But if it ever were to, I hope it's just as good, if not better, than Majora's Mask

To answer your question, yes, yes I do remember Phantasy Star Online. It was a masterclass in game design. It has some of the best music in any video game ("IDOLA Have The Immortal Feather" anyone?). The Dark-type monsters are among the most creative and alien (in every sense of the term) video game monsters ever devised. And I curse Sega's name with every breath for teasing Phantasy Star Online 2 and not releasing it yet. No, I don't care that there's an unofficial English patch that lets me play the game. Don't make promises you can't keep, Sega!
