Because back light take a lot of battery power. you can't use backlight in normal AA battery. gameboy light can play only 2 hour when open the light.

The OG Gameboy did come with an accessory that did allow for the Worm Light to plug in it was a two pronged adapter that on end plugged into the OG game boy and the other accessory from the gameboy color plugged into the other end.

I think they didn't include the backlight to extend that battery life. Allowing people to have a backlight would damage the brand which probably focused on playtime.

I sure admit to having that heavy lighted magnifying glass for OGB....still have it but it was pretty much useless from the get go. I remember the first hour ooohing and aaaahing over how "big" and lit it made the screen. Two or three days later I was back to using the OGB naked....lol. The thing was way too heavy with stuff on it and the difference it made wasn't big enough. Did you know that when the original GB came out Nintendo made batteries and tried to convince us that any other batteries "could" damage the GB?? Always use official Nintendo batteries. I guess so---the thing sucked up four a week, lol. I actually asked my science professor if that was true and immediately started using regular batteries when he said it was just a decietful selling ploy. COOL. The link cable was the best accessory. That was a really good video, thanks

I would say the GBA earphone adaptor since I pretty much need that, but honestly it shouldn't be an accessory. It should've just been built in to the system.
