@@thesoloboardgamer6051 Uwe games just hit the spot for solo for me. They prove that if the core puzzle is good and varied enough score attack works just fine for a solo experience. I hope more designers take the lesson instead of going towards more elaborate AI opponents

@@MrJurents yeah you can find the rules on bgg, it was put out after the game. It has a score attack mode and campaign mode with two difficulty levels. Really great stuff if you like that core puzzle.

Hi Chris, thanks for kind comment, glad you enjoyed the video, surprisingly a lot of work for such a short video... Nemo's War is definitely a solo game, but the others play very well with friends, maybe better... I'm still prefer to play solo though... Scythe comes with a fantastic solo deck that controls the AI very well, it's designed by the same people that did the automa deck for Wingspan. Speaking of Wingspan this is definitely the easiest to pick up and play solo... Hope that helps...

The combat is fantastic and so satisfying when you pull off that perfect combo. If you like a challenge, I can't recommend it enough...

Aeon's End is one of my favourites. I have all of the expansions, and have played through a lot of it solo. There is a great in depth post on boardgamegeek. Search new player resources for Aeons End and you will find the thread that can help you make a decision on which game to buy based on what you are looking for, but in my experience, Wave 1 (base core game) is a good place to start because it is the least complicated and introduces you to the world of Aeon's End. From there, Wave 3 (Legacy) and onward is where it introduces story based campaigns and expeditions. The best of these campaigns is Wave 6 (Legacy of Gravehold). It is a legacy game but is fully playable after the campaign. So my recommendation would be to try Wave 1, then if you like it, try Wave 6 for a better solo experience.

@@thesoloboardgamer6051 Kingdoms is a bit simplified for 2/1 player with less cards. But the game adds new modules to play in different ways, the drafting is done different and you don’t have to create a stack of 8 decks for solo. I beloved the solo is much enjoyable than the original. That’s why I sold it and bought me this one.

Definitely, couldn't agree more... Jaws of the lion hit better for me rather than the big box, perhaps just the ease of getting it to the table?... Sword and Sorcery I really wanted to love, but all the rules and fiddly gameplay just killed it a little for me... And I agree that Mage Knight is a truly elegant and remarkable game, I often choose something lighter and less time consuming instead, f.e. small solo gems like Black Sonata, Maquis and Deep Space D6 or Hostage Negotiator (still on the fence about starting to collect the more streamlined and improved "successor" Final Girl). I swcond this. Is a game i habe to play atleast once a month for a three to five games.

I have tried so many times to love Mageknight. Every few months I break it out and spend forever re-learning the rules with the hope I will discover what others love about this game. I spend a ton of time in setup, make a mistake or two in the early / midgame and feel like its hopeless to continue. I press on thinking I can maybe recover the game and ultimately waste 4 hours with absolutely nothing to show with it but frustration for not ending my run after the screw up. I don't think I will ever understand how well rated this game is. PS- Thanks for the list!

Hey mate, thanks for the comment... I really struggled at first with Mage knight, until I watched a couple of old playthroughs by Ricky Royal on his channel Box of delights. He did such a good job and cleared it all up for me. Hope that helps...

​@@Bndeulogy2 What makes Mage Knight the best game in the world for me is the constant solving of the puzzle of how best to use the cards I have available at any given time. There are SO MANY ways to play any given hand - and I LOVE that. It never gets old. But I can totally understand your frustration. It's very rules fiddly and potentially punishing game. My best tip would be to maybe... bend the rules a little to avoid feeling like you are drowning. Because you don't need to feel ashamed for cheating a little when solo gaming. It's all about having fun :D Also second Ricky Royals vids on the game. That's how I learned it.

So am I, good choice... Now stop putting it off and play it. You know it makes sense...

You should give it a go, it's such a challenging puzzle every time... I love it when you work out the perfect hand to take down a powerful enemy or successfully siege a castle... I love it for it's limited cards, every playthrough is vastly different depending on what spells and powers come out of the deck... It is wonderful when you get that perfect hand. Yes mate, all the games in this video you can play solo, either against an AI bot or it's a coop game where you play as several characters....
