The early 2-parter about Miss Ellie's cancer scare was based on a real life situation for Barbara's BelGeddes.

I love when the soaps tackle serious issues. I swear empire had more in common with Dallas than dynasty anyday.

anderson, I loved the first 2 seasons of Empire but it soon went downhill. It kept its virtues of inclusion and shameless soapiness but they became too dependent on the stunt casting and mafia plots. Taraji and Terrence were in state of grace here, but they got rid of great characters too soon. The second half of the series hasn´t been shown in Spain yet, due to low ratings, I guess. I´ll devote a video to the current shows influenced by the 80s soaps, keep tuned! Toni from supersoaps.org

Neat thing about revisiting the shows again is seeing faces I recognize from other shows from the 60s and 70s: Harold Gould, Frank Marth, Kenneth Tigar, Glenn Corbett, & Richard Jaeckel. As well as Martin E Brooks & Tina Louise who I recognized when I first watched these on CBS.

One of your best, Toni. Poor Lucy, she went through so much!

Thanks a lot Dom! I agree, Lucy actually went through everything so after her wedding there was little left for her to do. Charlene did great acting in the first 2 seasons. Funny that a character so often made fun of (remember Terry Wogan´s nickname of "Poison dwarf"?) got so many serious issues to play. Toni from supersoaps.org

I loved the relationship between Pam and Lucy; when Pam first came to Southfork, Lucy gave her so much trouble, but Pam stood up to her and won Lucy's trust. And when Lucy wanted to have an abortion, Pam was right there for her, even stayed when Lucy underwent the procedure and helped her recover. I wish the show had shown more of that relationship.

The storyline shows why sexuality should never be buried . It always shows itself in the end.

The story arc with Ray and Donna's Down Syndrome baby was so far ahead of its time. Susan Howard is a pro-life lobbyist now, and God bless her for it

Now ,it seems any character in anything is dealing with some personal problem associated with sexuality, psychological issues arising from some situation in the young teenager/ adult 's family or school .
