In this video, I'll be showing all the important tourist spots in Muscat. We had a long layover in Muscat, so we decided to book a city tour. Because of this we had very limited time and could not see some of the tourist spots in detail. If you're someone planning to explore Muscat during a layover, you would still need to obtain a visa depending on the passport you have.
Royal Opera House: 0:43
We first head over to the Royal Opera House. The Royal Opera House is Oman's premier venue for musical arts and culture. It reflects unique contemporary Omani architecture, and has a capacity to accommodate a maximum of 1,100 people. The ticket price is 3.15 OMR for an adult and 1.05 for a child. This includes a guided tour where we are briefly explained about the history of the Royal Opera House.
Mutrah Fort: 1:49
Built by the Portuguese in the 1580s, the Mutrah fort was used for military purposes but currently it is open for visitors. We could not go inside the fort due to shortage of time but we were told we can get a good view of Mutrah and the ocean after a short climb to the fort.
Al Alam Palace & National Museum of Oman: 2:09
Al Alam Palace is the ceremonial palace of the Sultan of Oman. It is used for official functions like welcoming foreign dignitaries and heads of state.
The National Museum is Oman’s flagship cultural institution, showcasing the cultural heritage from the earliest evidence of human settlement in the Oman Peninsula to the present day.
Sultan Qaboos grand mosque: 3:03
The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is the largest mosque in Oman and has a capacity of over 20,000 worshippers. Unfortunately we could not go inside the mosque since we were told the timings for visitors was from 8-11am.
Mutrah Souq: 3:54
Mutrah Souk is one of the oldest marketplaces in the Arab world. The souk is a lively marketplace, with trading of local produce like fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices as well as traditional textiles, garments, jewellery and pottery.
