These wines are ideal wine cellar defenders. and include red and white from a number of different countries and regions. These wines all offer excellent quality for the price and are wines that are consistent year in and year out.

I love this video! Wait, I’ve been saying that since I started watching your YT channel.😂 But, seriously, this is an amazing selection - excellently curated! I’m thrilled to see Domaine Drouhin Willamette Valley Pinot Noir here. I haven’t tried it but Drouhin’s presence in America including the terroir of Willamette Valley was part of the things discussed during my visit and tasting at Domaine Joseph Drouhin in Beaune. As always, you’re right about Barbera, and I’ve certainly tasted some good ones from reputable producers including Pio Cesare. But I would really love to try the one made by Roberto Voerzio. And, naturally, I must find La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou, Château Haut-Bages Liberal, and Liquid Farm SBC Pinot Noir as well. I’m very much interested in the Amici Napa Valley Cab, too! Well, basically everything here on your list is a definite yes for me - including the Chardonnay.😁 Thank you for this superb selection of top wines at really compelling prices. Greatly appreciate all your insights and recommendations as well as the visuals in this video. I’m very, very impressed, John!

I think the Chateau La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou is a very nice wine. I’ve bought a couple of cases in the last year and a half. The only other bottle that you mentioned that I had was the Chateau Haut-Bages, and I liked that one too, though not as much as the first wine that I mentioned. Please keep the videos coming and I’ll keep watching them.

You deliver the very important information when a wine is within its perfect drinking window e.g. if it can be opened now for full enjoyment and how long a wine can age. I find this - together with the alcohol content - an indispensable information most YT wine channels just leave out! Kudos!

Amici is the real deal! i got to visit them around harvest time of 2023 and had to privilege to try almost all of their single vineyard wines. If you like Chardonnay their Charles Heintz Chard is a must try that is very reminiscent of Burgundy!

Domaine Drouhin makes fantastic Pinot Noir. The Cloudline brand Pinot Noir is a great way to enjoy affordable Pinot Noir from a top notch winery.

Great video. I like these bargains. Especially since of late I’ve disappointed with some higher priced purchases. For example, this time last year we had a 1999 GAJA Barbaresco and it was very uninspiring. Just last night we opened up a 2000 GAJA hoping for better results. However, it was the same storyline, uninspiring. Also no nose to speak of and other than having decent acidity, nothing to write home about. It was okay with the charcuterie, but as usual, at that price point you’re expecting so much more. Immediately after the GAJA we opened a $56 bottle of 2020 Caravan cab and that knocked it out of the park. Both bottles of GAJA were properly stored in a climate controlled environment and purchased from two different distributors.

Thanks very much! Yes, I actually prefer some produttori wines to Gaja and they are much less expensive. Sounds like the Caravan was a great buy!

Thanks for these, clearly have to try Voerzio. Palacios has such a great portfolio as you mention. Have to try their top bottles sometime. Need to get more Vasse Felix...do you have a favorite Aus chard producer? I also like Leeuwin and 10 minutes by tractor. Need to do a big US-Burgundy-Aus-Kumeu blind tasting sometime...

I was not impressed by drouhins willamette valley 2021, had a bottle last month and felt it lacked complexity and the oak stuck out a bit too much. Felt almost like a Rioja more than a PN.

I wonder if most second wines have higher percentage of Merlots than the main wine? do we have a stat on that?😅

They are all made in a style that allows them to be enjoyed earlier. So most have more Merlot and less new French oak.

@@AttorneySomm I actually dont agree at all. as a winemaker, it is opposite. wood makes wines softer and approachable because it oxidizes them and structure or tannins it adds to wines is minimal. they just dont dont waste oak for less structured and “fruity” wines with no potential of aging. thats why one would think oak contributes to structure or boldness when its actually opposite. I would suggest trying big bold Bordeaux before it goes into oak. they will be far more structured, rough and tannic before oak softens them up.
