Great video as always. I edit Phantom 3 Standard footage in Resolve and am having problems with my final results looking kind of muddy, particularly in the sky and in clouds. Is this a bitrate issue or am I doing too much coloring and stylizing? Either way a video on render settings would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi and thank you for your video, you did something at the 02.57 minute point I am trying to figure out, newbe here :) you dragged a clip into time line then you make it stretch out by a click making the clip fill the length left to right perfectly on the time line. Where do I click to make it snap like that end to end, I can't see exactly how you do it

Nice tips. I just install Resolve I was previously using Camtasia. One thing I'm still not sure how do you remove a part in the middle of a clip? Let's say the clip is someone talking and I need to cut one word ( or a few) in the middle of a sentence? Do I need to Slip (S) then go to the end of that section and (q or w) it?

how can you improve scrubbing performance by snapping to keyframes only? in virtualdub jsut hold shift. is this available in resolve?

I'm trying to import high frame rate footage and the clip attributes box doesn't have the check box next to it in the most recent version of Resolve. Do you know another way to make it come in slow?

Hey Casey, I'm working on a Psychological Thriller/Horror like short film. I'm stuck trying to create a look. I want a blue, green, yellow tone. I was wondering, when building a look is the process always the same? For example, the teal and orange look plays around with the shadows and midtones i think. Should I typically work in the Shadow and Midtowns when creating a look? I'm going for a look like in the line of Insidious, Ouija, or The Boy. Any tips will help since Color grading isn't my strong point.

is there any general guidelines for knowing what fps the footage should be? A bit of a tech question i know

Hi Casey, I was interested to switch from Premiere to Resolve, but using the 12.5 it always crashes when exporting. That make impossible for me to use Davinci for editing. Any advice to avoid this issue ? Thanks a lot ! Paolo

Awesome tips! I'll have to re-watch this every time I edit until it all sinks in. haha... How would you handle footage at say 60fps that you want to use in a 24fps timeline, but want the ability to use retime controls to adjust the clip speeds as required. If I leave the clip attributes speed at 60fps and bring the clip into the 24fps timeline will I get bad results? Thanks!

Just curious, which kind of footage do you think needs to be optimized? Would you optimized MP4 out of the GH4?

Is there a reason why you set your base timeline framreate to 23.967 instead of 24`?

I get some major performances issues in davinci if I try to bring in screenshots of webpages to the timeline. Say you have a full page screenshot of a longer webpage which would amount to something like a 3840x12000 png image. I bring that in to the timeline and everything starts to lag and drop frames and out of ram warnings appear etc. Why is this happening? It's just a simple image. I can bring the same image into Sony Vegas and no issues, plays back smooth as butter. Any advice?

Hi Casey, Thanks so much for the video's they are all very good and easy to learn from - thanks so much for putting them on for us. I did want to ask a question though. I shot a mixture of 4k and 1080 from the gh4. I'm trying to edit it in Da vinci, however I'm still having lag problems. I did the generate optimized media, I made sure that was clicked on the playback. In playback I put proxy to quarter, render cache smart, I am using a macbook pro. The only other thing is to work off the g-raid if the mac is the problem. But I have 129.97 GB available. So should be ok I reckon. Is there anything else I could try or I might be doing wrong? Thanks so much. PS - I'm doing it on a 1080 timeline.

I don't have the strongest computer at the moment, so I generate optimized media for all of my clips, and I am making a simple, short 1:30 video, and it's taking up over 32GB of space on my computer. I'm pretty sure it's from generating optimized media, and I don't have any extra space now on my computer. Any suggestions?

Could you possibly show how to color grade those white-looking hospital or medical commercials? Area they just nothing but high contrast?

Forgive me if this question has an obvious answer. I've only had Resolve for maybe two days (free 12.5 version). I've been watching vids and reading the manual, but have not yet finished the manual. Moreso just reading the parts relevant to the project I'm working on as I need the info. So you brought in that footage and set the framerate to match the project, causing it to come in slow. What if you wanted it to come in at normal speed then? Simply don't set the framerate for the media? Adjust the clips' speed in the timeline? Cool tips BTW. That split-and-ripple function is very nice.

Is resolve not compatible with 120fps footage?

do you think you could make a video that we can download to use to learn how to edit a very good video because all my videos are rubbish.
