I always carry a thimble and couple quart size ziplock bags with me just in case I need them as well. I carry a bag daily when I go to babysit my grandson and work on them during nap time. So in the evening, I double check to see if I have all the supplies I need for the next day. If you are doing anything with glue, I recommend a small package of baby wipes.

I agree with almost all your tips except the light simply because I lost most of my sight 6 years ago and sew almost totally by feel now. I’m glad I found I could sew without needing my sight as what little I have is deteriorating steadily… sometimes it feels like I’m sewing with an invisible needle and thread. I’m just off to see if I can source a bobbinator as that looks like it will be easier than my current method. I love my clover domed case. I do need to make a few pouches before my next travels. The only other thing I add is a couple of cheap “button” magnets to hold my pieces in place while I’m sewing and as a place to rest my needle when I stop. I tend to be travelling by train so the last thing I need is to drop anything.

Oh wow, I think you are amazing because I could not sew by touch. I’m so glad you have found a way to keep sewing despite losing your sight. Thank you so much for checking out my video and leaving a comment. Great idea about the magnets! Take care

Hi Emma … KZfaq is my go to place for information, entertainment and support. I’ve recently found your videos and I’m so glad to see and hear you discussing hand work. Your suggestions for sewing tools is very helpful. There’s one more item that I would suggest .. I find that I can so easily ‘lose’ my needle no matter how careful I try to be. The little stinkers like to roll away! Keeping an expanding magnet nearby is a great way to keep my sewing space safe … as well as not waste time finding a needle that has strayed. Thank you again and again! 🧵

Those were wonderful ideas! I often use little zipper pouches for my projects and usually carry one in my purse. I thought your hex petals and quilt blocks were particularly pretty! It's amazing how a bit of needlework of most any kind can comfort and soothe the mind and soul. I take mine anywhere I go. I have a flat plastic case that I keep some tiny hex pieces in and that fits in my purse also. Sometimes after work, I just park the car somewhere quiet and stitch. Thank as always for your unique ideas and perfectly, pleasant inspirations!

I just used the clover needle holder and LOVE it for travel. It's so hard to thread needles in the car. It's quite a luxury to have a bunch of them loaded. I take a camping headlight when I travel so I can always see to sew or read. I like the bobbin holder and may get one bt generally just use a neutral color thread for all my English paper piecing. It is a challenge to keep it from tangling. I usually use a pice of tape. England looks lovely! Maybe someday I will visit .......

I would encourage anyone to take a collapsible mechanics magnet tool thing I bought one in the thrift store but a lot of times you can find them in the hardware section or Harbor Freight. They also have at Harbor Freight does little magnetic trays that you can use to hold bolts and nuts and they're small enough that I figured you probably put on it in a bag

These are all great tips! I wish I could get my hands on that Clover needle gadget, it looks like the most useful thing! What I’m making for my ‘portable’ EPP/sewing endeavors is a traveling pouch by redhandledscissors. I really like that pouch because it’s the perfect size to throw on a bag, and I can fit my needle case (the one from your tutorial! I love it and my sister asked me to make her one), a couple of tin boxes similar to the Altoids, glue, small scissors, and it also has another space to store the blocks you’ve finished (I think it’s for 1’ flowers blocks).

Wonderful tips! I love that clover needle case and the bobbinator. They make traveling with my sewing so much easier. My favorite lighting suggestion is to get a lamp that sits around your neck. They are available on Amazon for a reasonable price and are great as you don't need to find a place to set or clip it. Mine is rechargeable and has different light settings. Best of all it doesn't bother people around me as the light is directed right at my project!

Great video! How ever I would strongly advise not to sew while car is in motion. Fine if taking when camping or beach where ever. But it can be dangerous while in motion. I had an needle go right through my finger and had to be pulled out. Painful. Save sewing for when your not driving. Or I mean a passenger…. And have fun taking it with you just not in motion. And it could make you car sick. Beautiful house and garden I would love to visit London I been to Scotland but have yet to go to London in the country side.

Talking of planning a few years ago I went back to Scotland (from New Zealand) and cut out enough bits to put together some blocks but did not plan very well as I cut some out the wrong way so that was the end of that project and went out and bought an embroidery sampler which I never finished. How I wished I had checked what I had planned to do properly and I would have had all my blocks finished ready to quilt. Enjoy your videos very much

Good Evening, Emma! It looks like you visited such a beautiful vacation spot! The scenery was lovely! Thank You for all the good tips! I pretty much do the same things that you recommend. I am interested in the slim, flat light that’ll you showed. I have an Otto light, & it is just too bulky, & heavy to carry when I am traveling. I would appreciate any information you can give me. Have a great week! See you soon!

Hi Grace, thank you for watching. I will leave a link to the light here, but it's in the uk and it actually says unavailable at the moment. But hopefully this helps you to find one where you are. Take care www.hobbycraft.co.uk/lightcraft-slimline-led-task-lamp/6330571000.html

I've been busy watching a lot of your videos since discovering your channel last week. They are all so good! I looked in the description box and don't see any recommendations on where you found your cute little thread snips....? And the needle holder for pre-threaded needles....? Thanks for the great recommendations. 😊
@emmajonesvintagesewingbox
@emmajonesvintagesewingbox Жыл бұрын
I think the snips are from Rose Garden Patchwork and the needle holder is called the dome threaded needle case by clover and is readily available on lots of quilting shop sites and also amazon. Thanks ever so much for watching my videos, means a lot

I’m in America and we travel in an RV so longer trips great for smaller projects. Thanks for the tips! I’m older so have some arthritis, do you have any tips for position of your hands to do less stress on them?
@emmajonesvintagesewingbox
@emmajonesvintagesewingbox Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Linda. I don’t know anything specifically about posture of hands but I would just say find what feels comfortable to you. Some people comment on my unusual hand positioning (stitching away from myself) but this feels comfortable to me so that’s why I do it. I would also say take regular breaks and do some hand stretches before and after. Sorry I can’t be more help 🌸

Hope you and your family had a great holiday, the scenery was stunning Emma😁. It was a very helpful video. How strange is that I was looking at the threaded needle wheel only today, but the price put me off🙄. I noticed you had a quilt started is the one I would like to do. It's the one with the honeycomb pieces in. Can I ask where you got the pattern please. It's lovely to see you and I look forward to seeing your next one. Stay safe Dear🤗

So glad you liked the video Angela. The honeycomb quilt is the patchwork of the crosses by Lucy Boston but I bought the monthly subscription boxes from Sew and Quilt, they send the pattern and all of the fabric and papers, it’s really lovely, I hope to get back to it later this year 😊

Hello Emma, new Subscriber here. Just started my first project in English Paper. Your pincushion. With some scraps from a friend.. I don't own any fabric but I'm a long time cross stitcher. So I have all those tools for cross stitch. Have questions: You keep your hexagons in all projects [ any size]. You don't stitch hexagons on folds and the glue in time un stick when you make so many shapes. Thanks love you're channel 💟
@emmajonesvintagesewingbox
@emmajonesvintagesewingbox Жыл бұрын
Hi Yvonne, thanks for watching and subscribing. Yes I keep the hexagons in and use glue. I’ve found with practice to use just the right amount of glue and you can store them for years without them coming unstuck. Thanks so much 😊
