I had this filter referred to me and so far I’m loving it! I’ve watched a few reviews on it but you’re the first to actually take apart the impeller which I love! Because that’s the part I was most curious about which everyone else just disregards. There is nothing too simple and you cover everything. Well done!

I have three of these filters, the 55 and two 75s, they are truly great. Had the since they came out, 3 plus years and they are still going strong. Broke a piece on one filter, Seachem replaced the part after an email to them, without cost. They even sent me some fish food to try as well. Great company to deal with.

Terrific video thanks. Being a novice, I wasn’t sure if I was going in right direction. Your video showed me that the backup filters I use in my tanks have the same sized rappeller so they must all do about the same quantities. I have a charcoal filter with cubes of the foam and batting you showed us. I change the foam regularly or just rinse it through with treated/aquarium water. I actually purchased a big pack of sponges 🧽 , I am thinking of lining the bottom of a tank with the foam before I add the rocks, decorations, pebbles and gravels which hold lots of crud in itself but I’m thinking a 4 inch layer of foam with absorb and hold ammonia waste for longer periods.

The reason you don't want to run regular carbon in a planted aquarium is because it will remove all the minerals and nutrients that your plants need to be healthy. Plants need Micro and Macro nutrients. There is a carbon which can be ran in a planted aquarium; its called Chemi-pure Green and its made for planted aquariums. I use this on my planted tank and it works great.

I agree, Brother. It’s also only necessary for removing smells, cloudy water, medications, toxins, etc. in fresh water aquariums. Water changes and maintenance helps as well. 😁

Love my tidal. I have added a polishing pad. occasionally I'll add floss, or purigen. I would add that there is only so much you can put in the basket before it starts to bypass the media. At least with the tidal. I find if I go much above that lip where the basket widens, the blue thing will pop up. When you look in that little reservoir will be full.

If you don't have a sponge to put over the intake, you can tie one of your bio bags(empty) to it. I did it this way on several of mine, and it works great(but not with tiny babies). It will keep the sand and debris from the impeller though.

Aquarium co-op has a large intake sponge that fits a marineland 350-450 if you take off the bell. Also you can put sponge or floss between the basket and housing on the tidal filters behind the skimmer. There's a cavity to drive water downward where I put mine on my 110.

I have taken them both down twice now and same result. Also will these work as good if I choose to turn both down and just run them with no skimmer because even with just one is running as slow as it will the current is too much. Two 55s would provide more Balanced Filtration than One 110. Try to mount each Filter on the back wall, with the Center of the Return Ramp at 1/3 of the Distance from each corner. At Feeding Time, slow the Filters to Minimum, add food, let fish eat and then Return to Normal Flow. This greatly reduces the amount of uneaten Food from being pulled into the Filters.

I’ve read on Purigen package you can regenerate Purigen 10 x with bleach. Haven’t had my aquarium long enough to test it out so I’m only repeating what’s on directions of bag. I’m new to fish keeping and I bought it online thinking it was for amonia removal only. I put it in my aqua clear before I went to bed and in the am I thought my water drained out and my fish were flying in air. It was drastic because I have big pieces of wood and my water is always yellow on a good day and brown on a better day. Water was so clean and I was hooked. I bought the container but finding inexpensive fine enough bags for Purigen media has been a struggle. I went as far as making a pantyhose liner for my mesh bags - but I doubt he flow is as efficient. I have to just get over it and buy the fluval bags at $12 each. 🤬 I do love a good deal…

Longtime fish keeper tip--fine filter media is not necessary for a healthy, established, properly maintaine aquarium. On my Seachem Tidals I use a coarse prefilter sponge on my intakes, the coarse internal sponge that came with the filter, and three bags of Matrix for maximum bio. Water params are all in check, water is crystal clear. I was told years ago by another old fishkeeper that if your otherwise healthy tank has cloudy water it's usually because you don't have enough bio and the beneficial bacterial are free floating in the water column.

Intake sponges are great , they catch everything that usually clogs your filters . - Just make a bucket of fresh , conditioned, water-- tap water kills your benefitial bacteria -- squeeze the sponge , after removing all snails and baby shrimp.. It's pretty easy and makes a big difference. 😎👍
