There's something very heart wrenching when Mike is singing it now. It doesn't detract from the single. If anything it adds to it. But his voice feels as if he's a little broken as he sings at the piano. Just beautiful.

He's not "a little bit broken" as the piece's key signature is C sharp minor. A minor key signature gives it that effect.

Too easy to overlook the musicality of Madness. Genuinely superbly crafted songs.

Love Madness, this was my dads favourite Madness tune, looking back, I'm smiling, he would do this funny dance to it and as a teenager I would cringe. Love you dad and miss you. 1933-2009

One step beyond Madness was the second album I bought when I was a kid, Absolutely Madness was the first. I still go to the occasional ska gig in Melbourne and sometimes local bands play a cover of My Girl, so it's great to hear Mike Barson (and his ex) tell the story behind this song.

Love this channel and this one is great. Kersten really brings it to life and demonstrates the whole ethos of the song and the man/ woman dynamic.

Their best single imho. Drum beat is the nuts. Mike was the coolest member for me too. First major gig I ever saw was Madness, Christmas Eve, Hammersmith Odeon, 1979.

'Men are locked up in themselves and they can't express themselves'. That's a blanket statement if ever I heard one and it's funny because 90% of the singer / song writers on this series are men expressing themselves very well thank you. Less of the prosaic stereotypes would be appreciated.

I'd say they both are NOT on the same page. He says his co worker chit chat inspired the song. Ex gf says she was the muse who inspired the song. Lol Props to them both!!

We where all shocked when this single was released. We feared that the tough aggressive Ska band had gone soft and all lovey dovey. They were right, they went on to be a brilliant band.

girlfriends obsession with "talking" it's mind-bugling. a guy likes to chill and have an interesting conversation about something he's passionate. if he's not talking, it's because you are to shallow and talk about stupid stuff all day. for a guy, shallow talk means wasted time and he prefers to stay online to browse interesting stuff or watch an interesting film, documentary or a match on TV. as a girl, you will be amazed how much a guy thinks about the future house or some add-on to the house. guys thinking is mainly constructive and not just passing time like girls do.
