For better or for worse, the world runs on oil, and extracting it isn’t easy. That’s why we have offshore oil rigs to get the job done on a grand scale. These production platforms extract and process petroleum and natural gas that lie in rock formations deep beneath the seabed. These structures require an incredibly large crew and an even larger facility to accommodate them and will employ massive drills to dig for Liquid Gold. So you can imagine that some of these oil rigs can get pretty big. But some of that can reach astronomical sizes! So join us for today’s video, where we look at the top 15 largest offshore oil rigs.

Troll will always be #1 in my book. I remember when the transportation exercise was televised & it was an eye opener to see that huge behemoth moving through the deep Norwegian Fjords. That to me represented the pinnacle of human Engineering at that point in time...

I actually helped run 2 of the projects for buding 2 of these on the electrical and instrumentation side as assistant project manager. Video doesn't do it justice standing on the highest point of these rigs off shore it's really impressive and watching them move the jackets and decks and sections and stack them like building blocks with the world's biggest crane. But the biggest platforms on world is thunder horse and Appomattox that I also worked on

My hubby has worked on both ThunderHorse & Appomattox... he's also been on Atlantis, Olympus and BigFoot this year.... The video really doesn't do any justice... The videos we have from the chopper are unreal. They are like small cities, Lol

I’ve mainly done day trips to some of the platforms in Cook Inlet. The Cook Inlet ones are tiny compared to these platforms. It feels weird when the Ice is hitting the legs when the tide is running.

@@JstcountryGirl I did Olympus Atlantis and big foot as well. Most recent I did was husky white rose look that one up super cool and perigrino that is in Brazil and leviathan is actually a natural gas platform that supplies all natural gas to Israel it has giant anti missle and aircraft weapons on it and has a few giant 30 mm fully auto cannons and a few fully auto double barrel 50 cals on it to protect the platform. I barley go offshore I do most of my work on land at the shipyards like Kiewit offshore services I went to leviathan and perigrino. Hearing the incoming rocket alarms is scary they would shoot them about 15 miles away from the play form just as a threat and alarms would go off constantly or seeing missiles fly over hitting other targets hundreds of miles away was crazzy stuff.

I commissioned my service company's stuff on Olympus back in 2014, about 6 months worth of stuff. Lived and worked out there the next 5 years too operating. What a great rig. Yea, T-horse is huge. Only spent a night there as I got lucky and a storm was coming in lol. Just as you say though, a bajillion miles of instrumentation pipes on all those rigs. I'd hate to be the guy who has to have the picture on their head of what needs to go where, and how.

wow hope no leaks and fracking scary too. wish u showed living quarters on them and how long people stay.
@joebreaux4520
@joebreaux4520 Жыл бұрын
People stay 2-3 weeks at a time, especially if they're working a rotation. Some folks might do 28 day hitches. Living quarters aren't bad. Generally you'll have a bathroom for your room, maybe a bathroom between 2 rooms. Most rooms are 2 man rooms on drillships and floating platforms have mixture of 2 and 4 man rooms.

Nah! That is a promotion of the globalists. What are you having trouble understanding the metric equivalent of? Metric for research and scientists, maybe make sense. But for the public and craftsmen, not a chance.
