Absolutely adore this car! I recently bought a 91 Civic Si (insert flame here) that I'm hoping to restore and then keep upgrading over the years. One day I might have something half as good as this car. Well done to Alphaholics, and thank you for the stunning video Chris Harris and film crew!

FlyHy is '91 the EF or the EG?
@danielrubiano5354

It depends on where he is. If it's a JDM car, it's an EG, if not it's certainly an EF. Civics from this era were released a year before in Japan.

90's cars of almost any segment have a lot of personality. A lot of them are unfortunately modified to the point of being undrivable or just for show. There's an undeserved "hatred" for the 90's Hondas on some parts of the world due to that. Those cars have an already proven potential on the chassis and engine for a very fun car if it's done right, even on a budget. I have a '95 EG6 that I plan to take care of and modify. Not everyone has the possibility of doing a swap for several reasons, but the EF deserves a B16! Good luck with your build!

I bought a 99 EMS new in 1977 after a 1967 BMW 1600 & a 1969 2002. That SAAB was in nearly every respect, the front wheel drive version of the 2002, but more comfortable. They had similar engine/power available and both handled superbly for that time. I was able to make several fast (110-115 mph) trips in both the 2002 & the SAAB and the handling was excellent in each of them. Holding high average speeds was the best part of both of them and no one noticed just how good they were for many years after that. They weren't flashy, they just worked.

In the eighties I had 3 alfas, first one was a 76 giulia 1600 supernova, that ended in the side a van that didn't see me overtaking, kept the remaining in the garden and moved to a 2l coupe Bertone (the car in the video), this was really amazing, would get your juices flow, that went in a tree, found a bare body custom bi-color alpine metalic blue top and silver metallic bottom with white racing stripes from front to rear, this was a 1965 1300 giulia fully chromed 4 head lights front and decided to use absolutely every part I could get from the 76 1600, reverse pedals, original the axes was down and not assisted by engine manifold, all interior swapped, I had so much fun with that car... there wasn't a place I would go that people wouldn't ask me how much I wanted for it. Few months later I found a 2.4l rally engine in a small garage that was used as a depot by Alfa during a summer race 10 years earlier. Got the block for peanuts and decided to overhaul it and install in the Giulia. I could never find out exactly how many HP that engine developed but with the double weber 46 it was said to be 240. Mounted 195/14 r 50 on the original 165 rims, I have had many cars since those days and some pretty fast ones but is it real memories or just nostalgia I do not think I had more pleasure driving ever than with this car. Thing to remember is that in those days gears were not to drive over 185km/h regardless of the power so the gears were very short and you had to change pretty much all the time to stay above 4500, the cars were designed for small country roads, hill climbing, this car was fitted with 4 disk brakes that sustained heat pretty well , a 5 short gear box, Independent mc-pherson suspension so was very much advanced for any series cars of the 70's. no way you could go anywhere without feeling that desire to push it faster in every corner. it had the small tipicall front windows in the door frame corner, it had a particularity in that the wheel nuts where reverse threaded from one side to the other to use the wheel rotation to keep them tight . Unfortunately the European cars of the 70's/ 80's and more specially alfas after they were taken over by Fiat would rot just looking at them and in those days I could not afford a complete body work, the chassis started to be soft, rust started to show under the doors so the best I could do was giving it to the local Alfa club and let them do whatever would be best of it. Another thing to remember is that as I see on the roads if you drive a fun car (usually cheap) no one can keep up with you, the guy behind is not going to destroy his GT3 just to show you his goes faster, so if you have the money to buy a GT3 or a GTR even, remember you will have much more fun driving a megane or a civic R to it's max because you will have less fear of loosing big. However the fun of driving a giulia or a 110 alpine, a cooper S , a r5 turbo, in a deserted back country road early sunday morning is way way more fun than going round a track in a Lambo.

Exactly what is missing from modern cars; simplicity. I know most of the day to day muppets who don't care about cars, want all those ruinous gadgets and bullcrap, which plague the industry currently, but I wish all manufacturers would at least take the time to make a cost efficient, simple sports car, like they used to. Better yet, bring out the tooling from some of the legendary models in the past and make them again for enthusiasts to buy new again but in large numbers like before, to bring down the costs and make it affordable. There is no point in bringing back simple cars, if like this Alfa, it's not affordable for most people, no matter how good it might be. It would also contribute to bringing back the excitement in the automobile in younger generations, by creating obtainable and yet genuinely amazing automobiles they can aspire to, just like us older guys have had in the past.

enigmaPL It could not happen. Engine would not comply with emission requirments and then theres all the safety systems that have to be lugged around. About the closest you could get for a very good price is a mx5 with a super charger kit on it. Still cost abt 5k on top of the car to do properly. Gives just on 200 bhp on the 1.8 with 10psi boost pressure

@@gothicpagan.666 "From the simple to the complex", a truism...Yes emissions, when you've hooked up your car to a four-gas analyzer, and according to the PPM numbers, you realize your car is cranking out pollutants equivalent to dozens of "well tuned" other cars, you'll then realize what's going on. I won't even address the safety issues...what it would be like to smack your head into those roll-cage bars...caving in your head...picture someone hitting you in the head with a 1 1/2 meter long piece of 2 1/2" steel pipe...

Please keep em coming Mr. Harris. Outstanding. You must admit, this is one crazy according to it's title, but you did a hell of job with opening the views eyes. The joys,the experience, the goose bumps, and sporting cominality to driving as a "practice" (as we say about yoga) of balance and holding the noices and special things that take you away when driving and properly taking it in. Always time well spent. Great work. Thanks again for sharing.

Alfa Romeo, Lancia... what else? Ferrari is now only about marketing and 0 italian passion, Lamborghini was sold to the germans :/ Maserati making bussiness in the USA... Suddently the only nation that made cars with their heart, with PASSION and LOVE are fading away. If not Italy than there is no hope for the future.

Right, blame FIAT. So when FIAT invested 5 Billion Dollars into Alfa in 2014 to create the extraordinarily Giorgio platform and the V6 QC engine which is a masterpiece which in turn isn't selling as well as they hoped in North America due to a long standing fear Americans still have locked in there mind that Alfa's will fall apart within a year.

What a delightful video. When I was a kid the GTA was the car that I wanted, but could not afford. So I got a Fiat Sport Coupe, moded the engine and added an Ansa exhaust, Koni shocks, and BWA wheels. To this day it remains the most fun car I have owned, and this video brings home the pure exhilaration of driving a car with just the bare essentials. Who needs all the modern creature comforts? Just get down to the basics and go driving.
