@@blumpkinexcalibur7523 This is such a dumb take to have. In an apocalypse you would rather have an electric vehicle since you can charge it directly from the sun if you can find a house with solar panels or even carrying portable panels yourself. Whereas gas would run out quickly and you would be helpless unless you siphon gas from other cars which all has a limit. Don't forget that gas pumps need electricity to operate as well. You're absolutely right on EVs being well fitted for off-roading applications. Just needs higher range figures and it desperately needs to lose some weight.
@gruppefbc
@gruppefbc 3 ай бұрын
The individual motors don't make up for a lack of diff locks. With diff locks you can effectively send the entire vehicle's torque to one wheel, however with an electric motor per wheel and no ability to mechanically connect those motors you're limited to the maximum torque an *individual* motor can produce being sent to a wheel, ie you can only ever send the output of one 145hp motor to a wheel, not the system total of 580hp, and that single motor output may well not be sufficient to shift the vehicle if only one wheel has traction.
@jryalls
@jryalls 3 ай бұрын
It’s not about the bhp it’s about the torque and the torque of each one of those motors is massive
@gruppefbc
@gruppefbc 3 ай бұрын
@@jryalls Agree re the torque of the electric motor, however a single motor's torque may still not be enough. That said, my comment was more intended to correct statements made that imply the total system output can be sent to a single wheel (as is the case with the ICE G and its three diff locks). Not knocking the vehicle or EVs at all, rather just wanted to clarify things.
@thomasjackson4743
@thomasjackson4743 3 ай бұрын
You clearly don’t know how difflocks work.
@gruppefbc
@gruppefbc 3 ай бұрын
@@thomasjackson4743 I do. With a locked diff, a wheel in the air, so with zero traction, receives zero torque. Yes the wheel RPM is the same as that of the other wheel (because the diff is locked), but 100% of the torque coming into the diff will go to the wheel with traction. So if you have three locked diffs (front, center, and rear), and only wheel has traction, that's where the entire's vehicle's torque will be. With a locked diff, zero traction means zero torque. Here's a direct quote from Eaton: "Locking differentials (generically referred to as “lockers”) can lock the axles together to provide 100% of available torque to the wheel with traction."

@@Vamsee_K First of all nobody claimed that normal cars were apocalypse-proof. But all things being equal they still go further on one tank of gas. And the gas wouldn't just all be gone, certain people in certain places would be able to get their hands on some for a while still at least, unless they have enough intelligence to restrict it to generator use (which wouldn't be capable of charging the EV either). Plus for some there will e eventually be the option of bio-fuel. Finally though both cars are computerized to hell these days I still feel a conventional car would have a better time if it loses the ability to phone home. Why are they making cars like these electric. To me it feels like theyre trying to make consumers feel like they care about the environment. If you build an electric vehicle you almost have to make it about convenience, lightweight, aero, efficiency, if you absolutely don't care about all of them which is obvious with any G-Wagon and fine to me, just throw a v8 in there. IMO this is just a waste of rare, environmentally-unfriendly raw materials. Electricity still comes mostly from non-friendly recourses, and mining lithium and all the other materials needed for an electric vehicle is one of the most depleting processes around... Cars like these should just be for fun or for people that want them, nobody uses them as originally intended. Just throw a massive NA V8 in there, and make a hyper efficient family car if you feel the need to compensate

It’s easy to lower operating costs of such a vehicle if you have solar at home, that’s a big advantage. Also EV’s have those downsides, it’s not like fossil fuel cars don’t have these downsides.

nope. I love the 4x4 electric drive but want to see MB implement it as a hybrid powered up by Gas engine charging electric battery which powers the 4 drive motors. In this way one could get more than 190-200 miles. This whole thing powered by a battery won't fly in real harsh terrains where there are no charging stations.

Listen dude: for example the Hummer EV weighs even 1000 kg more than the G580! The electric Hummer is a 4 ton vehicle... 🤦‍♂! Compared to the Hummer, the G580 isn't that heavy at all. Hummer is useless bull....it compared to the G580. It makes no sense driving a vehicle like the Hummer EV, which isn't even a SUV, because it's a fu....ing heavy truck. The G580 has so many clever solutions, that a "little weight penalty" of 500 kg compared to the G63 is excusable.
