Unitary executive has many defects,Actually many Founding Fathers didn't prefer unitary executive, it was Alexander Hamilton who strongly advocate unitary executive and he prevailed in 1787 Convention. Elvridge Gerry Edmund Randolph and George Mason were in favor executive council.Roger Sherman of Connecticut stated his preference for the executive to be appointed by and directly accountable to the legislature, regardless of whether it was to be unitary or plural. Before the vote to approve the unitary executive, Sherman also commented that advisory councils in the majority of the states and even in Great Britain served to make the executive acceptable to the people!

@@powerfulstrong5673 Read Federalist #’s 67-77, “The Executive Departments”, Hamilton c.1788 and you will know that Hamilton didn’t believe in a, in your words “unitary executive”, and if you read his conclusions in the last paragraph of Federalist #77 he explains that with all the protections that there are to prevent malfeasance in the President, that the most powerful control is that the President is always under the control of a body of the legislature. We don’t have a president with powers of leadership and decision making, all collective decisions of the United States are made by the united States, in congress assembled, the Union and Established Government Authority, the Union which makes our country the United States of America!

@ 2:58 it'd be interesting to have an example. Maybe an example would involve the Chief Executive's discretion in federal law enforcement or spending monies allocated to agencies which he has oversight?

The only thing the President can do is consult congress for their direction, then implement their directions. The President is only the Commander in Chief when the Army and Navy when they are called into actual service, and only the States assembled as the Senate by the concurrence of 2/3 of All the States. The President has power, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, to make treaties, provided 2/3 of the Senators concur, which is the concurrence of 2/3 of the States when all States have both of their Senators present. By and with are before and during, not after, confirmation and ratification are after choices are made. There is no such thing as Executive Orders which have the same weight as law established in the Constitution of the United States, in fact by Article 1 Section 1 all legislative powers contained within the Constitution of the United States, which includes all the Articles and the Amendments is vested in a congress consisting of a Senate and a House of Representatives, the united States, in congress assembled, which was established and empowered by Article 2 of the Articles of Confederation. Executive orders are generated when the President consults congress for their intentions with a law to aid it’s implementation, then once the President has received clarification, then the President issues an executive order to the executive department responsible for implementing that law. All presidential powers are conditional on collective decisions of the States assembled in congress, the united States, in congress assembled, and the president is always under the direction and control of a body of the legislature! (see Federalist #77, “The Executive Departments”, Hamilton c.1788. I’ll stop here because obviously none of you political geniuses have ever read the Constitution of the United States!

The President may get away with much if Congress doesn't check him. Just like Secretaries of State in operating their State's elections may get away with disregarding their State's election law if the State Legislature isn't in the mood to check them.
