Lyrics:
We get it almost every night
When that moon is big and bright
It's a supernatural delight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight
Everybody here is out of sight
They don't bark and they don't bite
They keep things loose they keep it tight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight
Dancing in the moonlight
Everybody's feeling warm and bright
It's such a fine and natural sight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight
We like our fun and we never fight
You can't dance and stay uptight
It's a supernatural delight
Everybody was dancing in the moonlight

In 1973, when we had a hit with Sherman Kelly's Dancing on the Moonlight, it was unimaginable to think that four generations of listeners around the world would be enjoying the song 20 years into the next century!. Toploader brought Dancing in the Moonlight into the 21st century where it is now firmly established as one of the most successful songs to come out of the 70s. Kudos to them.

Playing Driver on my PS1, late at night, this song on (very quietly) in the background, I had a silver venetian blind next to my cabin bed which let just enough light in from the streetlights to feel like I was in a hideout in a movie, I had a halogen desk lamp, and I'd snuck a can of coke upstairs as part of a midnight snack. Life was good. That opening riff takes me back to that exact, magical moment in 2001 every single time I hear it. Cheers Toploader for this absolute banger, it may not be the first version, but to me, it's irreplaceable

I worked on this video. It was a mad shoot. We had to clear out an entire house in New Cross. It was about an 18 hour day if I remember. The video still looks great to this day. I remember the director loved those fairy lights and put them all over the place. I spent a lot of the time encouraging people to dance on the top floor to keep the vibe going :) Those were the days, hanging out with fashion models and going to wild parties - another lifetime :) This is the first time I have actually watched the whole video! I worked on so many back in the day but I remember this one.

This is my favorite song because it's connected with a very precious memory from my childhood. My parents got divorced when I was 2 years old. I stayed with my mom and I saw my dad from time to time. Until I was 5 years old I saw him every 2 weeks and when I was 4 or 5 years old he listened to this song all the time on repeat. We listened to it while we were in his art studio and he was working on his projects and I was playing next to him and it was such a peaceful atmosphere. The older I got the more complicated my relationship to him got because he got depression and wasn't able to care for his children anymore. Later he died and at that time he became already something like a stranger for me even if I always loved him very much. So this song puts me always back to those moments where everything was peaceful and good.

A very touching testimony... Too long to explain why I tell you this... But I bet your dad loved you very much too, till the very end, and who knows, perhaps beyond....even if he may no longer have had the strength to show it as he should have. Depression can be overwhelming. Sometimes men are stronger than life, and sometimes the opposite prevails. Anyway... Wish you all the best

This is exactly why it was written in the first place, in fact it's quite a sad story. Writer of the original, Sherman Kelly says; "On a trip to St. Croix in 1969, I was the first victim of a vicious gang who eventually murdered 8 American tourists. At that time, I suffered multiple facial fractures and wounds and was left for dead. While I was recovering, I wrote "Dancin In The Moonlight" in which I envisioned an alternate reality, the dream of a peaceful and joyful celebration of life."

song is very special to me. When I was in the fourth grade our school was participating in a field hockey tournament in the next town. I took the transport the school provided, seeing as my family hadn't owned a car at the time. After the tournament was finished me and 2 other of my teammates were the only ones taking the bus home. Our driver the coach took us to McDonald's and told us we could have anything we wanted. On our way back this song came on the radio and we sang and enjoyed ourselves very much.

My dad played this song at my wedding two months ago. I grew up with him singing this to me. This song holds a special place in my heart.

It was the last song of the night, just my dad’s band and close friends and family left. Wonderful way to end the most important day of my life, unforgettable! ❤️

the story behind this song is so sad. if something so warm and nice and wholesome can come from such a dark place, then surely we all can bounce back happier and warmer and ready to believe in love again.

@@lakepod577 he fell asleep on a beach with his wife after island hopping with his friends and they were beaten by 5 men with bats and she was raped. he wrote this song about a world we’re everyone was so happy that something like that couldn’t happen and this song was made. he says that he thinks its so popular because the universe was amused with his response and that he’s amused with the universe’s response to his response.

So I used to work in this italian restaurant in Clapham Common, in London. I'm italian myself, and I wanted to work abroad for a while. I packed my things and left. The restaurant was busy and had this repeating playlist that basically shuffled 30 songs over and over. This was the BEST tune we had, I remember being so happy serving the customers with this music, it brings me happiness just to think about it again. Music is truly a great thing

Fellow italian here! Ahaha And this happens to me too! I work in a bar (in Italy) and the boss always plays some kind of KZfaq playlist, but when the good song finally comes around you'll see me truly smiling, not just smiling to be nice with the costumers 😅 and I'll try to move and do everything following the rhythm ahah

I danced to the original of this song, under the northern lights, in Christmas, super mild, with my best friend and his partner, a great memory, and thanks for bringing it back, in such a respectful way to the original. If I'm wrong and that was the original, awesome!! Love this song!!

There are four versions of this song from the 70s and I agree that this cover is the coolest. Of course, these kids had a lot to work with to make it so cool!
