My all-time favorite set. The 7th Series was never released on the West Coast, so I ended up paying an outrageous five dollars to get the complete series via mail order. Imagine that! Rod Carew rookie, Tom Seaver rookie, Brooks Robinson, Maury Wills, Jim Bunning. But in 1967, for a twelve year old kid, five bucks was a small fortune!

I opened hundreds of these packs as a nine year old in 67 and there are two things I'd like to mention. I remember the gum being at the top of the cards, exactly where the gum was in this, but the cards were facing the other way. Meaning, when he opened the pack, it should have been the back of the cards he saw first. Second, the gum was oblong and powdery. It could be age that caused the powder to disappear. I remember the powder being all over the top card. Another thing: what are the chances of getting two Mets cards in a row? Can someone do the math on that?
@ubk426 жыл бұрын
It is not surprising at all. There were only 20 teams then. You would have had the same question if it had been any of the teams. So it is 4 chances at a 1 in 20 event.
@Nestor1230576 жыл бұрын
Bob Koca: The formula for finding the probability of two independent events happening in a row is to multiply the two. So to answer my own question it's 1 in 4000. Possible but highly unlikely. It's actually lower because there were other cards in the series like rookies cards and series check lists as well as other miscellaneous cards. I remember the series well. It was my first collection and I had about 500 of the cards. I went on to collect the entire series of cards for the next four or five years.
@Nestor1230576 жыл бұрын
I made a mistake. 20x20=400, not 4000. So you have 4 chances, at 1 in 400 odds, to get two cards in a row from the same team. Unusual but not that unusual.
