At the twenty-year apex of their career, the Japanese quartet toe will add another captivating live release to their extensive catalog with the feature-length performance, DOKU-EN-KAI.
In the same electric vein of beloved live releases RGBDVD and CUT_DVD, DOKU-EN-KAI shows the band completely absorbed by their element. Kinetic, impassioned, frenzied, and with palpable energy, DOKU-EN-KAI brings toe’s renown and allure into sharp, unmistakable focus.
Shot ‘in the round’ at le Poisson Rouge in NYC, and directed by Josh Coll, DOKU-EN-KAI provides an immersive escape for all of us yearning for the return of live music. Throughout DOKU-EN-KAI’s 85-minute runtime, toe effortlessly split open the musical spectrum and rearrange its pieces into their signature sound that draws on elements of math-rock, jazz, hardcore, and post-rock.

Got to see Toe in Salt Lake City playing to a crowd of only like 12 people. Got to meet the band and get a picture. They are so good live. I love how the guys will get so worked up playing they just start screaming at random times. It was too 5 best concerts I’ve ever been to.

I was there, knees touching the stage, beside Yamazaki-san's amp it was a beautiful experience, I'll never forget that performance of "F_A_R" in particular-everyone moving in unison, building to that release, howling together, it felt like we could blow the roof of le poisson rouge...I don't think any recording could capture the sheer volume of the audience, especially for that tune absolutely, cataclysmicaly and completely destroyed my neck and voice that night, well worth it

The energy in the room when these guys play live is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. If you’re ever given the opportunity to see them in person, and you happened to be like me and mostly prefer to stay home, please go. It’s an experience I’ll be forever grateful for.

Ads target the most popular parts of videos, which for long stuff like this, or even eight-minute songs like Manchester Orchestra's The Silence, means KZfaq places ads right before the drop. That's why I turn my ad blocker on every time I watch music here (and purchased this video over on the Topshelf site).

I have watched this 10 times over. I love the moments around 1:08:52 where you can see the close ups on each members instruments and it becomes clear how much time they've spent with their instruments. The scratches really showcase the time they've put into every performance. I hope these guys never stop scratching their instruments. Please come to my city and perform. I want to experience this firsthand!

I literally have chills, seeing an artist pour this much passion into their work is breathtaking, imagining the obsessive amount of practice and time they've put into their craft is insanely admirable to me. I'm sure I'd shed some tears if I got to see them live, toe has cemented themselves as my favorite band.

Always research your favorite artists influences. I found this band because in a Yvette Young interview she mentioned them as an inspiring band for her so I checked them out on a whim. They are my favorite band of all time now.
