Been down a bunch of rabbit holes with YT golf instruction, and for my body type, age and athletic ability nothing touches Clay’s instruction (for tennis too)! Also got the smoothest Tennessee accent of all time ( pause). Keep doing your thing my guy! 🙏

i'm 14 been golfing 3 times in the past week because there is a driving range 5 minutes from my house and now I can't stop watching golf videos. I unfortunately am not very good at the sport yet and have only hit the ball about 150 yrds with a driver but it is so fun. I have been using my friends driver but I need to save up for my own set or something sucks that they're so expensive.

Been golfing for 30 years and low to mid single digit handicap. ALWAYS struggled with my irons and never de-loft them. Have always flipped and slid (and probably stand up) but I use my timing to try and compensate. Most days I'm ok, but some days I'm terrible. I overcome it with hitting good drives, chips and putts. The rolling the hands over is something I have never seen. Not like you show. It feels to me like a reverse of the flip that I do. I also am steep. I will be heading to the range this afternoon or tomorrow and trying all of this and have no doubt if I put in the practice, my iron game will improve significantly. I really appreciate the KZfaq video. Thank you.

Thanks Clay, finally a pro that showed and explained to me the piece I have been missing for 30 years - the turning “in” of the wrist to close the club head. I have been away from golf for 16 years but now at practice I am hitting such nice compressed irons. I have had a good looking swing forever, reach sub 80 rounds when playing my top days, but never consistent, ever so often losing it high and to the right, not understanding,rolling over the wrists to compensate, having some quick hooks, the sense to be forced to rush a little bit. The sense of the ball sliding sideway on the face. Now they don’, full stop This is world class stuff! Grateful /Andy

Clay where were you 30 years ago, I am 70 years old only had 3 lessons. But what you teach is right on point. Before your lessons I was driving 200 to 220 with what you have shown I now hit 265, irons are 25 yard longer. Now consistently. I need more practice, it will come. The great actress Julie Andrews, said, amateurs practice until they get it right. Profesional practice until they see no wrong. Thanks again

what a fantastic set of tips. instead of having to watch multiple separate posts, Clay has captured all the key checkpoints in 30mins and unravelled the mystery of why I cannot generate distance. Despite the right motions and actions, I would invariably spear the ball to the right if I accelerated my club. Now I know the trick is in the wrists! Cant wait to hit the range again.

Tried applying the upward facing wrist hinge on the range earlier today. Couldnt believe what results I was seeing, crushing irons/hybrids an inceedible distance. I stopped playing golf out of pure frustration because I couldn’t hit my irons well. Been to many teaching pros over the course of 30 years of playing and none of them explained it quite like this video, i.e. the slot and the wrist rotation on the downswing. Can’t wait to dust off my old clubs and try this at the range. Thank you Clay!

Ok so I know this is an older video but it kind of gave it a chance since I've been having a problem with my irons. A little back ground I started playing when I was 28 I am now about to turn 60 on June 22. Well I stop playing about 2010 and started again beginning of 2019. So I started from the beginning and tried to work on my swing. Well back in the day I used to hit my 8 iron 160. When I began again I now I am older but still I should be hitting it at least 150. Well was having a terrible time getting back to my distances. Well I watched this video and understood exactly what he was teaching. I went today and warmed up. Well I started hitting my irons using this technique and guess what? I was hitting my 8 iron and avg of 172, my 6 iron 200 yrds, my 9 165 yrds, My driver!! 302!!!!! Yup and I am 60!!!!! Man thank you sooooo much!!!

I implemented this recently and it works like a charm. The key for me, was @ the 3'47" mark. Gets my club perfectly on plane, and you can feel theres more power packed into that position. I even now focus at the spot in front of the ball and am getting an extra clubs distance on ALL my irons. ...and flying over the green. lmao. THANKS!...SO much for this video!

@@TopSpeedGolf Im curious to know what you think about me "focusing on the spot in front of the ball"? (my thinking being that "the ball is incidental" anyway. Its seems to have me a lot more accurate and / or a higher percentage of the time, hitting the ground AFTER the ball...) (?)

There is not much instruction on this essential topic. It's as if teachers know this and keep it secret, focusing too much on other areas of the swing, whereas where the rubber hits the road is really where it's at.

The out-in downswing or also called over-the-top comes from simply initiating the downswing with the arms while there isn't yet a change of the weight (which must be the first thing to do as teached by Mr. Hogan) to produce the down-movement of the arms and mainly the clearenceof the lower body for the correct pathway (in-out) that the club should travel for a solid-square clubface contact, Clay has stated that very clearly and is very correct.

For me once I started bowing that wrist i started sweeping the ball more coming in shallow and really started elevating my longer irons up into the air a solid 10-15 more yards and adding much more distance and spin with the loft. Timing those wrists is big and practicing doing it for sure. Great info and spot on as always Clay.

I've added about 20 yards to each one of my clubs by hitting them "pure". For me the biggest eye opener and best practice was to open up my stance which forced my hands to be ahead of the ball and really compress the ball. The sound is amazing as well.

Had to pause the video at 2:40 and let you know this is exactly my challenge. I feel I need to use my right shoulder/arm to create power, but I'm actually going over the top and slicing my irons or worse, topping everying. I'm looking forward to hearing how to correct that........

I have played five rounds since I watched your video (many times). I don't have it grooved yet but the move from the top into the slot gives me a real feeling of power through contact. I am struggling a bit with rolling the wrists to square the club face but it will come with practice I think. You have the best video on this that I have seen!

@@TopSpeedGolf I went to the driving range and worked on it. It was relatively easy to figure it out with irons. I started with my 9 iron that I usually use for distances of 130 yards and I ended up hitting close to 145 yards. 5 iron was close to 200yards. But even better, most hits were straight hits... no fades. It was a little more difficult with my driver. Just need to work more on it. I noticed if I slow down my swing with the driver it helps and I still get quite good distances. I guess with the driver we all try to hard :) Thanks again!!

Such great instructions, I told a few guys at my club to take a look at you guys videos. After practicing a little the iron drills to deloft the club i was able to feel the slingshot in my swing for the first time and i gained 2 clubs . Unfortunately when i showed up on the course i we t back to my old swing , so i guess I'll go practice some more on the range untill it gets natural so I don't switch it on the course

Lefty here - Clay this helped me so much! I find if I don’t have the wrist turn, it’s a complete shank. When I turn it over, it’s a beautiful shot and ball flight. After we’re in the slot, what forces you make that wrist turn consistently?

Hey Clay Just a note to say that you are without a doubt the finest golf instructor on the Internet. I became a member on March 14 th 2016 and have been through the course many times. My game has changed dramatically for the better because of it. One of my weak areas was getting down the move. I under stood what to do but my brain kept getting in the way until I came across this iron video series. For some reason everything just clicked! If you can put together a video series like this one for fairway woods, my game will be complete. Thanks again for creating Top Speed Golf member forever John Jaconsky

I got to the point with my swing where I am doing all of this, except with a strong grip so I don't have to turn my wrist down into impact. I guess its not quite the same, but it feels better than trying to square it up. I am working on it though, by keeping the strong grip for now and playing with an open face I am forcing myself to learn the wrist turn. Cheers, this has been a big help, going back a couple years ago when I subbed ur website for a season!

If I can make a suggestion: go to free golf online, (same videos found on youtube) you'll find a guy that takes you step by step through this very swing, it is just broken down into finer and more detailed points. Again, it is the same swing, just the key points are broken down better. The gentleman is a redheaded English man that is very easy to spot. Its a very easy swing to take to the course if you actually follow the steps offered. Using a mirror is very handy. I went from being a snowman golfer to actually having a pretty swing and playing competitive golfer.

90mph on a bad swing. Mans a beast ha. Clay, I got myself a prgr for lockdown. I'm hitting my 7 iron 175 with the bowing wrist feel down swing. Across board consistently up 20 yards on all irons. Problem is in reality on course I'm hooking way too much. Should I focus on path or bow less? I would love to not give up those numbers or close to. Big fan of the content.
@TopSpeedGolf
@TopSpeedGolf 4 жыл бұрын
If the ball is starting left then I would bow less. If the ball is starting to the right then it's definitely path. If the ball is starting straight then it's probably a little of both unless you're striking it on the toe.
