@@voidjockey82 He died at the end of Children of Earth (series 3). Also a 1-2 years have passed for Jack since Ianto left (maybe more, time dilation in space and that), so he's probably learned to live with it.

He is upset about Ianto still in Miracle Day. There’s an episode where he gives a whole tear-filled speech about him. Listen to Big Finish’s Torchwood: Aliens Among Us if you really want some pain; Jack not only moves on from Ianto to some other guy, but to the most annoying, idiotic, and murderous guy who has no right to live ...better yet, don’t listen to Aliens Among Us.

There was much Jack was in pain about going into Miracle Day. He'd lost Ianto, his Grandson, hell even his crazy brother he still loved was blown up with the Hub Jack had no family left once his daughter disowned herself. He's roughly two thousand years old he's lost so much really all he can do is grieve and move on. To be fair he did have about two years of mourning between where Children of Earth ended and Miracle Day began, we even see him drinking away his sorrows briefly before the Tennant Doctor's regeneration.

Honestly, watching Miracle Day while recovering from the effects of my second covid vaccine was the perfect thing to watch. It’s a lot of fun, albeit slow to start with. Lots of fun moments between Jack and Gwen, I wish we could’ve learned more about Rex and Esther, and it’s a shame we can’t through Big Finish because of copyright. It’s Torchwood how I like it: dumb and silly.

I truly despise this season, it's not Doctor Who media, it's not even Torchwood, because how am I supposed to believe this Ion Network reject of a season is set in the same universe as a robot dog, genocidal blobs that ride in giant pepper shakers, cyborgs that want to convert everyone into them, statues that kills you when you blink, a deadly swarm that resembles shadows, and a werido traveling around space and time with a police box? If Jack and Gwen never appear it would just be a bland crime show woth terrible characters that somehow features the fat guy from Space Jam and Lonestar.

i really liked it, it felt so much darker than anything else. the way that humanity devolves so quickly into concentration camps for “basically dead” people is horrific. the whole triage situation is so creepy and it’s right at home in the torchwood universe. they took a break from the gags and tried their hand at honest to god scary sci-fi and i think it payed off with a cool and intriguing narrative.
