This was recorded during her Summer of Sin Tour in 2005. She performs a haunting version of "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)", which flows into Tori Amos' own "God", which flows back into RUTH.
Oh yes, if there's any Tori Amos vs. Kate Bush business in the comments section, I will remove the offending comments. You either respect both artists or not post anything at all.

I was at this very show when this was recorded. 2005 Red Rocks Colorado. Her hair was blowing she had this flowing gold dress with a wrap and it blew with the wind so beautifully she looked like a goddess. Great show.

I was watching a Kate Bush doc in which Tori was interviewed and she said the first time she heard this song she was driving and she had to pull over and listen to it cause it was so good.

I was at this show. September 5th, 2005 Red Rocks. 3rd row. When she played this song it literally shook me to the core. The entire amphitheater was vibrating as her keyboard hit certain resonate frequencies. It was so fucking sad and slow and hauntingly beautiful...I literally have goosebumps just thinking about it. Her mom was in the hospital at that time and they weren't sure if her mom was going to make it. Something was going on with her heart. So when she was playing this song, singing "if I only could make a deal with God / get him to swap our places", she was singing about her mom. 💔 Too. Fucking. Real. 😭😭😭

She has bravely done many difficult covers and she NEVER fails to do the song justice. Never thought l would ever hear an artist dare to do Kate Bush songs and do them so well that I enjoy Tori's as much as I do Kate. This woman doesn't have to take a second seat to anyone. She possesses a talent that few others can compare to.

So true. I hate when idiots try to say Tori is just a Kate imitator. These fuck-tards haven't written a song nor play an instrument. So they both are women who play the piano and have an eclectic style. Wow...then that's all there must be to it. Don't consider the uniqueness of Tori's songs (melody/chords)..."they have vaginas, sing, and play an instrument with black and white keys!". What's more, even if Tori drew "inspiration" from Kate (which I really am not sure of [as if there can't be more than one kooky, piano playing girl in the world]), Tori's leaps and bounds above Kate as an instrumentalist. Kate could "play" the piano. Tori is a virtuoso.

I believe this is from her performance at Red Rocks in Colorado September 2005. I've seen Tori 14 times but this concert was the most memorable of all, this song being a highlight of the entire show. I still recall it echoing on the rock walls, and I want to say there was a thunderstorm off in the distance from our high view. Haunting and mesmerizing at the same time. So fun to bring up this memory. Thanks for posting it!

I always find it awkward when the crowd starts clapping, out of sync and then slowly dissipates. I get shouting (at the appropriate time) but clapping to the song just weirds me out!!

absolutely seamless segue. these songs were made for each other and this brooding bass-heavy sound. Tori fans are maybe the biggest hunters of live recordings and rarities, for good reason - she never plays a song the same way twice and there's a whole load of incredible cover versions tucked away in her back catalogue. My key inspiration, along with Elton John, as I'm mixing down my first album and writing the second.

There are so many bands that sound a bit like each other just because they belong to the same genre so I will never understand why people bash Tori just for walking through the doors Kate opened in the late 70's, and just at the time when Kate stopped being active, it's a good thing someone was there to keep that genre alive and expand it. They both use piano and they both play a lot with their vocal range particularly in their earlier records, and that's about it. The atmosphere and intent of their songs is very different, plus Tori kept centering her music on the piano while Kate experimented with other instruments and synths and different ways to layer and use sounds. If you listen to their interviews, their personalities as well as the way they approach their music and the creative process are almost polar opposites. They may fall in the same genre, one that Kate pioneered, but that doesn't mean other artists can't play in the same space. Thanks to Kate and Tori there's room for artists like Joanna Newsom now, I can't wait to see other women making haunting music and following in their footsteps (and hopefully making one or two Tori and Kate covers).

the same ignorant people spewing the same ignorant hateful comments to Tori, how typical. she clearly really admires Kate and has shown that through the years with her imagery as well as this tribute cover to her, but instead of recognizing this you all choose hate... i look up to both of them. i play piano as well as sing with a high vibrato voice, because they are who i learned from and i loved what i heard. point is, people draw from those they look up to for inspiration. beethoven did the same with bach whom beethoven admired... it would be a real trip if years from now Kates son Bertie and Toris daughter Tash ended up meeting/falling in love, since they are only 2 years apart. maybe that would shut you guys up.

I think it's an act of bravery for anyone to cover Kate Bush, much less Tori, who was unfairly pigeonholed as a Kate clone by some in her early days. In reality she is a vastly different artist. The only important thing they have in common is that their genius minds lead them into artistic places my mind cannot follow. I slightly hate them for that, but it's the hate of love! LOL.

yeah i know what you mean. Kates music, well certain songs i can comprehend, because it is similar chord progressions and things i use, but overall yeah, she is vastly superior to anything i have ever composed and the kick inside fucking AMAZES ME, because she was writing those songs as 13/14 years old!! they sound so grown up!! moreover they were EXTREMELY innovative.. to me Kate Bush was the first "alternative artist" she came out right around the punk movement and i think without her influence music as we know it wouldn't have existed in the 80s/90s... the last good decades for music... punk was the attitude of the rebellion in the alternative scene that came later, but Kate was the spirit of it. of individuality... they don't GET anymore unique than her.. now when it comes to Toris music?? that prodigy is on another plateau that i will never comprehend.. she should really be credited with her early work showing what a piano is capable of.. she is the jimi hendrix of piano players.. she took a piano and turned it into a guitar/bass/drums all in one instrument.. what other artists could draw young people in using nothing but a piano and her voice playing the same arenas fucking nine inch nails played at? all whilst having NO drums, no band and everyone thought it was "cool" lol.. there will only ever be one Tori Amos and only one Kate Bush.. also, there is no performer on this fucking planet that can touch the passion that Tori gives on stage.. she really gives it her all.. she lets you into her fucking soul.. if these haters knew anything about her they would realize that..

datura1983 Yeah, when I listen past Tori's 3rd or 4th album, I'm like, "This is good. This is definitely, unquestonably good. But I don't understand it. At all. I feel stupid. I'm uncomfortable." That I play piano myself only makes it worse. If I were still in my teens or twenties I would probably listen to every album 50 times (like I did the first two), until I believed I understood them, but as one gets older, that sort of thing becomes much harder to do.

Tori is one artist able to actually interpret Kate. It’s great to see how many artists are inspired by the original tune but so many are simply retreading it - which is a fine tribute to Kate but not much of a statement of independent artistry. Tori is really a major artist whose work is actually comparable to the level of Kate’s work.

I was able to see Tori at a record release party for "Little Earthquakes" - was about 6 ft away from her...and she's the real deal. An amazing performance. I love Kate Bush. I've been a fan of hers since '77, but let's face it- until extremely recently she hasn't done live shows, has never toured, and to be frank, her last few albums have been a yawn. For me, listening to a Tori album is like listening to an album Kate should have made...but didn't. Kate, you can convince me otherwise...just tour the States....just once....please...!!!!

Kate Bush went on tour in 1979. All of the shows were in Europe and most of them were in Britain. She found it too exhausting and that is why she has not toured again.
