I've now watched your complete video series for the 770 Craig. I think you did a really great job documenting the whole thing from the start until now. Due to the shop space I have left, I'm hoping to pick up a 440 in the next year or two. A 770 would be much better, but I'm about out of room. It's way after the fact now, but with a bit of structural work on the floor, your wooden floor would have been up to handling the weight of the 1100. I've got a 3/4 sized Bridgeport clone that weighs 1100 lbs sitting on a wooden floor structure. And the 1100 would have a far larger footprint than my mill has. You still may not have had the room in your shop as you mentioned in your first video though.

+Turning Point - Cool, thanks! You end up needing more room then you think with the keyboard and monitor. Also, having a table nearby for tools and measuring tool offsets. The next thing I think I will be getting is a 4 foot rolling work bench to stick on the right side. It would have been a lot of work to get the 1100 in there. I would have had to make a bigger door to get it in there as well as reinforcing the floor.

+Craig's Machine Shop I think I'm the one that owes you the thanks just for going to the effort it takes to produce all these videos. But without an ATC, then I think building a rolling tool cart much like the commercial and real expensive one's would be a great help. Maybe something like 3/4" ply 2"x 2" with a hole drilled to take each tool? Then the tools can be placed in the order needed. I've clearance drilled one or two holes before that needed to be tap drilled simply because I wasn't paying attention and grabbed to wrong drill from the cutting tools laid out that weren't in order. Keeping the tools in there correct order removes problems like those. Add maybe one of those small 9"x 12" surface plates for measuring your tool off sets. Yeah I had to strip my Bridgeport clone down to it's sub assembly's just to get it into my shop. My shop door is only 24" in width.

+Turning Point - I will probably just get one of those rolling tool boxes from Home Depot with a butcher block on top. I don't see getting the ATC for a while. The fog buster has to be adjusted with tool changes. Maybe when I get a commercial shop and have flood coolant. Yeah, I need to label my tool holders. I see Grimsmo labels his. Not sure what he uses. Maybe white nail polish. The surface plate from Tormach was fairly reasonable. Strip a Knee mill down? Wow, now I don't feel so bad for what I had to go through. lol

Please don't jog your spindle down onto the item you're using to measure your offset (the parallel in this case). Slide the item under the spindle, if it clears, pull it out and jog down .001". Repeat that until the item doesn't slide under the spindle, then jog up in .0001" increments until it is just able to slide under the spindle.

Sorry Craig, I feel bad for calling you out like that. Having personally done this "the wrong way," I wanted to help others avoid that potentially costly mistake. I really enjoy the videos you share of your Tormach!

If you are going to use a parallel plate or a 123 block, don't use your vice jaws for your calibration surface. The Tormach vice travel jaw can be lifted in the Z axis. Always use the bed itself for your calibration surface.

30 ips seems fast for probe feed, probably moved the probe far enough it didn't reset when it backed off, maybe it didn't back off far enough for the amount of overshoot at that speed.

Hey Craig, is it possible that the connection inside the probe is still off after the probing op? Maybe the spring is not strong enough somehow to push the tip back down. My probe came with 3 different springs, from very light to very tough.

+Crivo152 - Hiey Marco, I took it apart and cleaned it and it seams fine now. I still have to calibrate it though. No, I didn't see any extra springs in the box. What kind did you get?

Yeah those ATC's are a bit pricey. Would be nice if you could load in 20-30 tools for that price though. Actually pulling a knee mill apart is pretty simple. I'd highly recommend anyone buying one or any mill do so unless it's got built in feeds or hydraulic drives. The cleaning and reassembly certainly took a lot longer than it did to tear it down. :-)

+Turning Point - Too rich for my blood. I am starting at Techshop next week. I will have access to 2 knee mills along with a tormach 1100, waterjet, laser cutters, etc. Full machine, wood shop. You can look up Techshop online to see if you have one near you.

+Craig's Machine Shop Should be pretty interesting getting to play with all those toy's. But I know there's nothing like that here. I'm 1 1/2 hrs to the nearest larger city and there's nothing like that there.

Craig's Machine Shop - couldn't agree more. I struggle to find 5 feet by 5 feet in a single garage in a tiny house in Silicon Valley.

Active High active low setting somewhere maybe different from the X and Y but I don't know just a Guess, Nice tool though

Hi at 9:24 you have a message "cannot move with probe tripped, please check polarity on settings page before continuing" can you explain how you fixed that error, I am having the same issue myself Thank you

Wow, that was a while ago. It looks like I just unplugged and plugged it back in and it cleared. If that doesn't work, maybe try turning the machine off and back on?
