Really like how much stuff is going on under the hood on these. You can take a more lax approach and still get kills, but there's a ton of room to push the ceiling if the player wants. Seems like you can really abuse the weapon speed thing if you fight two or three at once

Yes, I believe the intention was for fighting multiple to be slightly beneficial. Not only do you get to bypass the respawn timer, but you get to double or triple tap during the special attack. The difference though is small, so it's not exactly punishing to just chill in singles.
