@xKimberleySays

I think the final scene in particular shows an interesting juxtaposition between the patient's obsession with perfection and Dr. Choi's desire to also control a situation. The patient behaves irrationally and, in an attempt to control the operation in the way he prefers, ends up hurting himself. Meanwhile Dr. Choi tried to control a situation in the early stages when he smelled a fire burning. When he lost control of an imperfect situation when it escalated, Dr. Choi lost control of his emotions. In doing so he also ended up irrationally inflicting pain upon himself like the patient. Both Dr. and patient have an internal locus of control whereby they take responsibility to control a situation. I think the point of the final scene was to show that underneath it all, the characters are not so different. Both had to begrudgingly rely on other people (patient had to let another person operate on him, and Dr. Choi had to rely on Dr. Charles' downplayed evaluation). Both strived for their perceived perfect outcome that they both did not get. (That being said I understand Dr. Choi's frustration as he tried to prevent things from escalating, though I think he overreacted.)

I was on dr.chois side at first but after what dr.Charles said I was on his side, sometimes people with mental problems can act incredibly irrational when restrained, if you talk to them as a friend or that you understand them, they will talk to you like a regular person. Also dr.Choi should have just given the case to someone else when he started getting inpatient, but ironically his ego/wanting to be right was the thing that was not letting him see how he was affecting the patient

I have severe body dysmorphic disorder but for me it’s manifested in harming my body in all kinds of ways because to me it’s monstrous and not worthy of health and there’s no possibility of fixing it. It’s actually a very debilitating and dangerous illness (I do have it combined with even more severe OCD so I’m not a typical case). Dr Charles is right though that there’s no reason why this Dr would treat his patients the way he treats himself because the dysmorphia only applies to our perception of ourselves- other than seeing others as more acceptable looking than we see ourselves.
@wessltov
@wessltov Жыл бұрын
I think this doctor has some perfectionism regarding his work mixed in. He's already dangerously insecure about his body, and since his skills are so instrumental in 'improving' himself, he'd want to test them regularly. It might go something like: "I have to improve myself" > "I can't entrust this to anyone else, so I'll do it myself" > "I have to be perfect at my job, or the result won't be good enough" > "Oh my God I am the greatest, these hands can turn lead to gold" (bar for adequacy getting higher and higher)
@checksanity
@checksanity Жыл бұрын
@@wessltov except that the illness/perfectionism wouldn’t really allow that final part to occur. There’s always something that could be done better. Perfection in/made by humans doesn’t exist (and there’s nothing wrong with that). If someone claims that they are, it’s typically ego or delusion.

Just me or does Dr. Choi always have problems with the other doctors?

Such a lunatic "doctor" . He shouldn't have the right to operate patients. This is the first time I think dr Charles made a mistake . Choi was right

The perfect being you say, well i have to tell you the honest truth as i see it, In this world nothing Perfect exists, it may be a cliché after all, but it's the way things are, that's precisely why ordinary men pursue the concept of perfection, It's infatuation, But ultimately i have to ask myself what is the true meaning of being perfect? And the answer i came up with was... Nothing, Not one thing, The truth of the matter is I despise perfection, if something is truly perfect, That's it! The bottom line becomes There is no room for imagination No space for intelligence Or ability, or improvement Do you understand? To men if science like us Perfection is a dead end! A condition of hopelessness, Alway strive to be better than what came before you, but not Perfect. Scientists agonize over the attempt to achieve Perfection, That's the kind of creatures we are, we take joy in trying to exceed our grasp in trying to reach for something that in the end, we have to admit, May in fact be unreachable, In other words you may think we operate on the same level, but you are wrong, the moment you started talking about Perfection, you embraced an impossible concept and had already lost to me, That is of course if you are indeed a scientist at all.

I Dr. Choi was overreacting just a little bit. Charles is the person here who's actually qualified to treat patients with body dysmorphia. He's a psychiatrist, after all, so Choi should listen to him. Choi also REALLY needs to educate himself on mental disorders.

I think Choi is supposed to be a heavy stereotype of a traumatized/mentally ill person who is unable to see outside their experience. He has PTSD from army, so any other trauma/mental condition sets him off.

I just like Dr. Choi topless, no more than that. So unless he will be shirtless all throughout then remove him from this show. 😂

Isn't Dr. Choi the first one to say "oh well, we can't do anything about it" to every other case and then he does this and thinks he has the right to be angry? Boy pls, each clip I hate him more.
