Tornado Crushes Oklahoma Town 1955 Colorized Film

Blackwell Oklahoma took a direct hit from an F5 twister on May 25 1955. 20 people were killed and 80 blocks of buildings and homes were destroyed. The city's largest employers, Hazel Atlas Glass Plant and Acme Foundry were also wiped out.
The Blackwell twister of 1955 was part of the Great Plains tornado outbreak that struck the southern and central U.S Great Plains States on May 25-26, 1955. It produced at least 46 tornadoes across seven states, the most vicious were the F5 tornadoes in Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Udall, Kansas causing the most of the deaths. The outbreak killed 102 from three tornadoes while injuring hundreds more. Unusual electromagnetic activity was observed.
Television crews from Tulsa, Oklahoma City, and Wichita covered the destruction and reporter Hugh Finnerty from Tulsa's CBS affiliate is shown here interviewing civil defense personnel and citizens.

Great video of the Blackwell tornado 🌪️ of may 25,1955-which was overshadowed by the udall,Kansas twister 🌪️ on the same night-and both were rated f5 -good film on the interviews with the people who survived the storm and lived to tell about it! The newsreel was great and the sound was better! 😊😊😊😊

The Blackwell tornado was overshadowed by the Udall tornado but Blackwell was hit very hard also. It's one of the most powerful tornadoes Oklahoma has ever seen.

I am from Blackwell, born and raised. My grandpa would talk about how scary the blue arc was. I met my bf 3 years ago, come to find out his grandpas brother died in the tornado. He was either a newborn or 1 years old. Denton is his last name.

I also recognize every single location in this video. It is so beautiful seeing Blackwell in color back then. My uncle James worked in the Glass Plant that was destroyed. The ground there today is still contaminated, I believe where the baseball/softball complex is.

The Atlas Glass Plant was on the east side of town. The area where the softball fields are is on the far west side of town. The grounds have been cleaned up. The ground on the west and middle of the town was contaminated by the zinc foundry not the glass plant. @@faithlablue1047
