Wow. I'm impressed with how much it resembles a real tornado. It would be cool to have one of these as a piece of decore for the home. Perhaps with some glow in the dark sand and a UV light over it.

Actually scientifically tornadoes (just like lightning) don’t come down and come up. They form due to wind mixed with weak structures like grass, water or sand, causing them to form from the BOTTOM. As in for lightning they pop out of nowhere, at the speed of light. Most of the times, they pop out from the bottom to due to electricity. This is 2 years ago so I’m sure you already learned this.

It's the downdrafts from the cumulonimbus clouds mixing with the small vortices at ground level which then get vertically lifted because of the storms updraft, which is formed because of the mesocyclone within the storm lifting the cold air up from said downdrafts. In other words, without the mesocyclonic rotation in the clouds combined with the downdraft from the lifted cold air falling back down, there would be no tornadic rotation on the ground, and you would have a mere dust devil or landspout.

How to do this at home: 1: Buy a hand coffee mixer the ones that turn milk into bubbles. 2: Fill a glass white water and sand. 3: Get the coffee mixer, grab it and sink the mixer part to the water and turn it on. 4: A water tornado will appear and grab the sand and spin it around, making the tornado.

Extreme ground scouring is likely but due to the thickness of the dust cloud-(which has 0 visibility)-this is not proven but it is to be expected.
