Had a good laugh at the end with the upside down blade. Of course I always watch to the end! I've been watching your older videos as time allows. Eventually I'll watch them all and leave a thumbs up. 👍

Thank you! You are the first person to mention it so I think it’s safe to assume you’re the first person who watched all the way to the end 😂

Very nice job Hester. I was watching your video and had to stop about 3/4 of the way through to go fix a friends push mower. I did get to finish the video just now. 👍

I'm filing this one away for future reference - always good to know when there's a better/quicker/easier way to get something done and you proved it figuring out how to release/install the spring end of that cable. Nice one! Now, how to figure out where to file it so I'll remember to look it up when I get one of those in the shop. ;-)

Every other video I’ve seen on how to do these shows that you have to flip it over onto its side, which just seems like a pain lol it’s always nice to find a shortcut👍🏻

Does this unit have a fuel pump? I heard that a fuel filter with a paper element should only be used when there’s a fuel pump. I don’t know if that’s true. Your thoughts? Thanks. I enjoy - and learn from - your videos.
@hester781
@hester781 Ай бұрын
This does not have a fuel pump, and you are 100% correct That paper elements should not be used on gravity fed systems. in fact due to the water impregnation of the old filter fuel was barely passing through it which drives that point home. However, this is my neighbors unit and he is a stubborn hardheaded Italian (much like myself😂) and he insists on having a paper filter on every piece of equipment he owns so I do it against my opinions.

@@hester781 Hey, JD! I'll have to humbly disagree with you on this one. I'd rather have a slowed down fuel issue due to water in the paper 40 micron filter versus debris getting through a crappy red 150 micron filter (which is really just a screen) and destroying an otherwise good piston and cylinder. People who are scrupulous about avoiding water in fuel have no problems with paper filters, fuel pump or not. Your neighbor just needs a lecture on how to avoid water in his fuel, IMHO. The other benefit to having a clear paper filter is being able to visualize debris. I'd rather change out a paper filter than replace a rusted/corroded carb or clean up piston/cylinder scoring. Another way to help overcome resistance to flow in a paper filter is making sure the fuel tank has more fuel than less. That added pressure helps the flow. I guess we'll have to check to see if Todd from Project Farm has done a study of this subject because I see opinions on both sides from many professionals. I'd rather see empirical evidence versus subjective opinion.

@@Rein_Ciarfella we agree in both spirit and in principle. However Many small engine channels have also given opinions and made videos about this debate Steves small engine saloon, James Condon, taryl and even mustie1. And the only real conclusion is a paper filter “can” cause fuel delivery issues on gravity fed systems. Which is at best a case-by-case, machine-by-machine debate. At the end of the day any debris big enough to cause actual damage to a piston wouldn’t make it past the jets, whereas a lean condition caused by lack of fuel will cause a motor to run hot and definitely cause engine damage. My point here being that there is no right or wrong answer here, just opinion and preference based on personal experience. I prefer fuel filters and can’t stand the little red ones personally but I’ve had sooo many comebacks and complaints from paper filters, causing problems on gravity fed systems that I now my rule is if it already had a paper filter, I’ll replace it with a paper filter, but if it didn’t, I will install a red one or nothing at all depending on the machine. Sorry for the long winded response but I do enjoy a good back-and forth with a fellow wrench 👍🏻

@@hester781 Just so we’re clear, I LIVE for long-winded! 😂 I humbly bow to your logic and wealth of experience much greater than mine. Everything you say makes perfect sense so I’m changing my tune when it comes to paper versus plastic and metal fuel filters. FWIW, as far as debris ingestion, I guess I was basing my decisions on intake filtration and totally ignored what can get through jets and what can’t. Thx for the lesson, Teach!

Do you have a chain hoist, JD? How'd you get that Toro up on the cart without doing further harm to your L5-S1? I'm lifting some small mowers up on the table, but anything even remotely heavy goes up with my patient lifter. Really heavy stuff goes up with my half ton electric winch. After 20+ years with a ruptured disc I pay heavily any time I forget I'm not 35 anymore and grunt something up off the ground. ;-)
@hester781
@hester781 Ай бұрын
Oh trust me there is never any lifting done by hand in my shop when there is a mechanical device to do it for you! I have a hook set up for the winch that picks up push mowers no problem. And this thing is deceivingly heavy!
