Why do you think people are leaving Canada. Those that work hard keep getting taxed more and more.

Ive owned two homes up north. Last home sold and rented up there then moved here when my youngest started uni. Its scary and frankly unbelievable what people are paying for rent. 1 of my sons moved back in with us here. We all work and are living in a basement apt its beyond rediculous. Young people will not stay here they cant afford it. City and government staff need to give up some of their income as part of the resolution to this crisis right now. I drive past a home for sale by me and out of curiosity i looked up this home to see why its not sold yet been on market a very long time ..3.5 million . I nearly choked. That house up north right now would be maybe 400000. Maybe 6 tops. I can go on and on but it seems pointless. The outcome if families cant afford to eat and live etc is never good. This city needs someone fearless and relentless to make change happen with the experience to get these proposed "plans" into action.

Olivia keeps promising more public housing, not affordable market housing. When does the city admit public housing doesn't work? The tenants abuse the property, the gangs rule the areas and the gov't has no clue how to run them. They are permanently, money sucking black holes that created the gang problem we face everyday. Even from an economic perspective, they are out in left field. Here is a perfect example of how lost the city is when it comes to public housing. 350 public housing townhouses are now being built right in the centre of Toronto. Yes, 95% of the population can't afford a 2 million dollar townhouse in the middle of the city, but the city thinks it's a smart move to build townhouses for public housing residents calling them affordable. How is this an efficient use of public funds when they could have doubled or tripled the "affordable units" in condo buildings? And the area these townhouses are being built in, Alexandra park, is still a gang haven. Same community, same caustic social dynamic, same gangs. But they are happy because they get townhouses and the downtown councillors have bought themselves thousands of votes. Public housing is brutal. It's a failed system that nobody wants to change. Ask Mark Saunders.... the police had to deal with the disaster the city councillors created for the past 60 years.

What about temporary housing options until the affordable housing is built. We need an immediate plan not one that takes years. Please address that!

Greed is what has raised the prices. FEAR is what is needed to bring it down. We need job loss and economic recession to create a forced deleveraging scenario. Many have made real esate their business. It is time to punish those who are motivated to exploit renters by generating ever increasing passive incomes.

More density this city is already beyond congested! Do we want to be the next NYC! Emergency vehicles can’t even get by to get patients to hospitals in time to save lives!

They keep saying there are not enough homes and not enough construction. Meanwhile all i see in Toronto are small businesses being pushed out to create new condos. It doesn't make sense to me. The housing is there. The supply is there. They said so themselves. There are enough vacant housing to suit at least 1/3 of the new population of Toronto immigrants. The real issue here is infrastructure. Roads, bridges, transit efficiency. Nothing wrong with moving to Hamilton if that's where people can afford to live. It makes Toronto less congested. But if I live in Brampton, it shouldn't take me 4 hours a day to go to and from work if I have to work in Toronto. It just shouldn't. And that is the reality of why people want to live here. Nothing sexy about Toronto as a city...

The major issue is that central bank supply huge amount money and long time extremely low interest rate, Government bring huge amount of immigrant and made huge spent and deficit, Real estate builder did not build enough housing to supply. too many people bought multi house for investment. Affordable housing in the city of Toronto is defined at 80% of market average. In the last 8 years for a 3 bedroom that is smaller than what 3beds used to be, it is $500 more a month todays Affordable housing, then regular housing from the past. Affordable housing is a joke.. the issue is mismanagement of the development process making it so unaffordable to build. The Province and city make about 26% percent on a project... a developer has to get 13% profitability to get any funding at all. The city of Toronto and its very very expensive process and requirements is whats killing housing affordability.... We don't need more affordable housing, we need more housing for everyone so everyone does better.....these silly notions that you can fix society by only helping those that are teetering on homelessness is idiotic... why have all the middle class live like the working poor... the decease is NIMBYSISM, gatekeeping from the city, and nice sustainable ideas that cost a fortune. Lets decarbonize by mandating green energy contracts.. not expensive building envelopes....

very few people will push for building piles of houses... why? people with money tend to invest in real estate... building more houses will cause demand to go down and prices to fall... what happens when prices fall? people lose money as their houses drop in value... people WANT housing to be scarce so they can cash in when they sell... scarcity forces prices to be high...

Renters have suffered and now its time for home owners to suffer too. Tax away. If u cant afford taxes than u can sell for less to me and become a renter. Homeowners were not complaining when they were making gains, now its an issue when they are expected to pay some forward.

When you speak ever on housing you must look at condos as a housing answer to our housing market problem. Condos on every 5th floor must be used to assist young families with two or more children at a 500$ per month rental units.

Saunders has a lot to say for someone who has ZERO experience in politics. That's like having an MP apply for a Chief Police job, criticize all the police chiefs, and claim they could do better without having any police training or knowledge. And if elected they would start in the field the next day. Thats the last person you want in charge of crime, and Saunders is the last person you want as Member of Parliament.

Another problem no one talks about is the house FLIPPERS. Even if you managed to get the supply and lower the price these guys will be them, choke the supply, renovate and just let them either sit there or rent until the house price goes up then sell. All the people with capital are looking to get richer from the housing market

Great let’s build homes developed and owned by the city; will it take 15+ years to come to fruition! Probably given bids, planning, permits, etc. look at European models and bring them in to manage these projects. This city has no clue how to get this done in a reasonable timeframe!
