Brings back nostalgic memories. ❤ I live in Toronto and my father grew up in Chicago. As a kid this was always the big family vacation every summer: getting up at 4 AM, leaving when it was still dark out, sunrise around London, breakfast at the old service centres on the 401. You even stopped across from the old "Wolverine" 76 truck stop (now the TA in Ann Arbor). The only differences were the 401 hadn't been extended at the time and ended at exit 13 (highway 3). That and once we crossed the bridge we took I96 to the I94 exit. Plus we took I94 to I294 and took the Tri-State Tollway to 95th street, then up to Burbank where my grandparents lived. I miss those trips! Of course this was before 9/11 so we didn't need passports, my parents citizenship cards and my brother and my birth certificates we sufficient to cross the border. I'll have to get a passport and take this trip again sometime. Definitely something on my bucket list. Thanks for letting me ride along! 😁👍

I'm glad you used the Indiana Toll Road and Chicago Skyway to skip the free congestion of the Borman and Kingery Expwys (I-80/I-94/US 6) and Ford Fwy (I-94 in southern Cook County).

I absolutely love your videos. They are the best to put on in the background while I'm working. I would love to see you drive Ontario Highway 11 someday, from Barrie to Rainy River, or even just to Nipigon. I've heard it's a "boring" drive, but I would love to see it! Anyhow, clear skies and safe driving on your journies to come!

Glad you like the videos! And yea I'd like to drive Highway 11 and see what it's like one time, even though it may be a bit boring. Thanks for the comment and support.

I-94 between Detroit and Chicago is the busiest continuous roadway in the world; nevertheless, as a trucker I enjoy driving the legendary stretch: it is a trucker's paradise, containing a plethora of unique truck stops and road parks along the way.

You know, the alternate way to cross the US border is to take the 402 and enter I-94 in Port Huron and continue I-94 to Chicago. Also, the construction of the Gordie Howe International Bridge is ongoing as it'll connect the 401 with I-75 to help decongest traffic.

Yea I've taken that route before but I always try to avoid it now because the stretch from Port Huron to Flint has some really rough roads, even by Michigan standards

@@travelxoverland, let's hope the Gordie Howe International Bridge is done by 2025.

So sad to see the abandoned town of Gary Indiana.
@thebabbler8867
@thebabbler8867 6 ай бұрын
It's not abandoned; there are still alot of people there. The city was mostly bulldozed back in the 60s, so it has an apocalyptic feel due to the fact it is not as urban as it once was.

Out of curiosity why did you take I96 rather then I94 toward to Chicago when you got into Detroit? is it a GPS thing?
@travelxoverland
@travelxoverland 19 күн бұрын
Yea must've been a GPS thing, and maybe the I94 had more traffic at that time or something
