I have the K.O. Nano controller and the K.O. RS motor on stock battery. I am 100% impressed with gains over the stock surron motor/esc. Extremely happy with the upgrade. Adding a 72v battery with as much as either 12kW or maybe even up to 17kW will be bonkers. I'm only able to run now 90A 5.4Kw at 440A max phase without my stock battery getting upset. Even though a pretty substantial feeling difference when compared to a stock 2022 surron.

For sure. when I first got the KO. I could easily tell the difference from stock. I was able to squeeze out 91A Without tripping the battery's BMS. That is the advantage of the Torp controller. With the stock battery, my other bike got up to 7.4. kilowatt. But with the Chi 60 Volt. I am very happy with my bike now. KO's latest throttle update made it feel so good. And I can tell you that riding at 12 kilowatt or 15 you'll never want to go back. It's not uncontrollable power as long as you're not going crazy with phase amps. So in your case I would wait for that KO battery that they've talked about. It's supposed to be less expensive than the other options, and will be well worth the money.

@@clu801 Also to note, the downside of putting out more power/expending more power is the faster you run out of battery. I can see a pretty big dip in battery runtime. Just the simple trade off without raising up battery capacity too. Also, from what research and from just common reasoning, the factory battery BMS system is set where it's set to protect that batteries internal components. A question that should be considered does raising the output capabilities from the factory 5.1-5.4 kW to 7.4 kW cause any damage, risk or added wear and tear? A stock battery at $750 is expensive to replace if you end up shortening its life or if causing internal damage slowly but surely. Ive have experience with this in another form. My car or the automotive world with turning up boost with turbos. There is the simple boost controller which typically tricks the the vehicles ECU and bumps up boost giving more power but at the cost of accuracy, safely and motor longevity. Then there is actual ecu tuning (more expensive) that makes the entire engine fully aware of the actual boost levels thereby adjusting everything else to correctly and precisely match from the get-go. Just a better way to to manage an engine since engines are the heart of a vehicle, a lasrg cost like the battery is to an electric vehicle. Just a thought. I don't know, I'm not specifying if running a batteries output past what the manufacture of the Surron battery is conditioned for is or isn't recommended. Highly likely it's not due to specific specs. Many professionals in a industry will just recommend better to buy the right components needed to turn up the power output properly as in the vehicle turbo boost scenario tuning vs. cheaper boost controler. The one major downside to improper Lithium Polymer battery use/care is a possible fire from hell.

@@clu801 Also, people who don't seem to like KO where quick to point out the Mink KO 72v battery is dead in the water. They were telling me not going to happen, company out of business. I was pretty happy to see this battery and read about it but we will see what comes of it. My throttle response and everything else with the Nano controller is near perfect for me trails/street/jumps. I don't ride long wheelies so I have no experience that. Maybe having the controller and the KO motor makes it an even better package than Nano and stock motor and work smoother and allow more power. My max phase current is 560A. Also, for field weakening with the Ko motor app states if running KO motor you are fine to use maximum setting7+.

For sure, using more power will drain that battery faster. That is the tradeoff, no doubt but for short rides, it's fun. And since I have the Chi60, I have an extra stock battery that I use with the other bike as well. On the danger issue, I would say that Torp is trying to make a name for themselves and I doubt that they would risk setting batteries on fire. So I feel pretty safe in that regard. But I guess only time will tell. We also have to realize that everyone's risk vs. reward is going to be different. I may be willing to sacrifice some things more than others. :) My thoughts on the KO subject. I think initially people have good reasoning to be upset with them. You got into it a little later when their software had made good progress. initially my throttle was so bad I literally hurt myself a few times, so I can understand why people hate on them. However, I don't agree that they keep trashing them when they've made the fixes that they've had. I don't know why people think that they won't come out with this battery especially at the price plant they're showing. People will buy it. The throttle control now is so smooth that I can ride wheelies for a long time and not feel uncomfortable. On that motor, I have heard that adds a bunch of torque. So the feeling is definitely different than the stock motor. The KO motor is definitely set up to handle more power and heat for sure.

@clu801 I read more material on the Torp controller. That info says the controller works fully with the factory BMS. Just tough to see how a aftermarket company can achieve more batt output then what the factory battery specs are unless Surron specifically made the cap level low on purpose. I'm not a all-things electrical educated person so over my head. I sure hope Miink/ko can come out the battery and it's a good product of course. I sent KO an email last night requesting an update on the 72v battery progress. We'll see if they respond.

I think the 16" rear would make a difference on the launch test. More torque gearing there. Which means that Torp did pretty well. 👍

@clu801 7 ай бұрын
I think you’re right. Definitely a different gearing ratio it would be like having a 52 tooth sprocket on a 19 inch wheel or something like that.

I'd expect a lower top speed if that was the case... but the KO wins both acceleration and top speed. The Torp ticks more boxes for me overall though.
@clu801

@@paulhope3401 with the smaller wheel radius that does affect rotational mass. For sure it would win the launch, but like you, I would’ve thought the speed as well. But they’re both really close at this point.

If I get the TORP tc1000 for Surron lbx but run it with stock battery/motor will I see the same increase as the tc500?

i got the torp tc500 a few days ago and it will only let me go up to 90a battery current do you have any idea why is that ?
@clu801
@clu801 4 ай бұрын
That is odd. you should be able to get at least 120a on the stock battery. Did you make sure your RPM was set to unlimited? If it is still giving you issues.. I would for sure contact Torp. I found they are great to work with.
