The story of Tyrannic begins in the early 20s, when the White Star Line was rebuilding their fleet after the carnage of WW1. When they recieved Bismarck, or Majestic, they decided to order an enlarged version. Plans were drawn up, known early on as Project Two. The keel of this new vessel was laid down in the east shipyard of Harland & Wolff, in Belfast, Ireland in 1923 on slipway #15. In 1928, her fleet mate, was laid down on slipway #14. This were to be called Tyrannic, the second of the class. The first were to be called Heroic, following a very similar design to Majestic, at a much larger scale. On March 29, 1928, Tyrannic was launched, and was over 1,000 feet long. Tyrannic was also supposed to have a running mate, the never forgotten Oceanic, but these fell through after the stock market crash, leaving the two vessels. Tyrannic was a quad-screw vessel, driven by four steam turbines producing a combined horsepower of 260,000. These would all be four bladed at launch, as it was found best fitting. In 1934, following the merger of Cunard and White Star, Tyrannic was of course the flagship. Due to the large success of Heroic and Tyrannic, RMS Iconic was also drawn up, following a more traditional design, appealing to the middle-age travelers. By 1937, all three vessels were in service, Tyrannic of course being the most popular. Due to the disrupting WW2's outbreak in 1939, Tyrannic, Iconic, and Heroic were all 3 called into service as troop vessels. She served well, carrying many men into many locations, surviving a torpedo, and running down a German cruiser, and outlived both of her sisters, after Iconic had burned in a fire, being broken up in New York, and Heroic being captured and scuttled. Tyrannic reentered passenger service for the now Cunard line in 1947, where she got the famous red funnels, and an engine overhaul. She was largely popular by the traveling public, all the way past Aquitania's lifespan. In 1959, she began to struggle, as ocean travel became a thing of the past. She was sold to various companies throughout a few months, and eventually was laid up in Halifax, awaiting her owners. In 1965, she was finally purchased by breakers in Cape Town, where she was towed by 3 tugboats, which struggled, to Africa, however, due to her size, her mooring broke loose in a storm, and after they failed to reattach the line, she began to drift. 11 days later, she was found aground off the coast of Cape Verde, in too rough condition to be pulled off. She rotted there until 1985, when she was finally purchased by another shipbreaking company, which eventually got around to dismantling her. However, because of the rough spot, her keel was left there along with many other parts, which still sit today. This is from the Wiki to tell you Jesse!
