I need to know if this will work the same on other impact drivers, I wanna test it on a ryobi so if I mess it up I don’t feel as bad…

That was our 1st thoughts as well! But we know some jobsite guys who lay into these as hard as we do on our wrenches if not more. Maybe its just at those torque levels its no Bueno, but at lower no worries.

With the increase in bpm I would also assume you are on to something. That said, guys use the impact drivers longer and harder with repetitive screw driving than removing a handful of bolts at a time. Definitely interesting.

Something not mentioned here is that impact drivers impact both forward and rotationally, while impact wrenches only impact rotationally. If the actual striking mechanism isn't changed, then using an impact driver with a 1/2" anvil swap is going to absolutely destroy the detent pin spring in the anvil, the detent pin hole in the sockets, or the hog nose ring over time just by constantly popping it in and out of alignment as the tool is being used. Impact driver's have that slop in the 1/4" hex to allow for that forward and back movement, sockets don't. For Milwaukee to shove an anvil on the impact driver, they'd have to create specialty sockets that allow for forward/back slop (maybe by having an extended detent pin groove?) otherwise warranty is going to kill them.

Looks like many small punches are better than one big. It's logical: When wrench punches the nut, slower speed (bigger intervals) creates a pressure gap to the nut, so the nut rebounds and wrench starts from almost the same pressure spot. Driver is faster so removes such impact gaps and the pressure to the nut is more constant. What about air pressure wrenches? Aren't they also like 7000 IPM? Would be interesting to see with slow motion camera.

@@LordOfSilense interesting point. I would wonder if it would wear the sockets out prematurely or if the wear would be cumulative and last until the useful life of the socket is used up. I don't know if the forward and backward movement is enough to cause excessive wear or not. Sounds like we need someone to do some long term testing.

I sure hope not, Milwaukee isn't dumb there's a very good reason the wrench and driver are the way they are. The hammer im the impact is more skookum and will handle abuse for longer. Generally the driver isn't stalled out impacting as its driving screws and the anvil has some forward inertia. The impact wrench will spend more times stalled impacting so it needs to have better durability

Cheesy? Wtf are you on about. Quarter inch hex impact drivers have changed the game for most trades. They are for driving screws. If the mod works for you, great. But as a builder I couldn't live without that "cheesy" tool. All you have done is convert it into a wrench. That's great, but now it sucks at driving screws, that's why I have two impact drivers that get run hard every day, and an impact wrench I only bring out to drive bolts into concrete, a job all my mates use impact drivers for.

I use my 1/4 impact driver for everything and very rarely do i come across a bolt it can't bust loose. I don't know how much torque it puts out but i was using it to run down lugnuts and accidently let it go for a second too long and it torqued my lugnuts to over 130 ft/lbs

@@TorqueTestChannel Bought the original m12 3/8 impact when it first premiered years ago, bought the 3/8 stubby when it premiered. Almost everything under a m14 or 1/2 inch thread, regardless of corrosion level comes loose in seconds. Also purely anecdotal, Lisle makes extremely heavy for "caliber" sockets specifically designed to increase power from impacts. I promise they work in reality, even from such a compact wrist rattle cannon as the 2463-20

With the fuel tools you have to buy the entire anvil/hammer/nose cone assembly and they cost about the same as a new bare tool

I think the point is that anything longer than 15 seconds is sort of absurd to just let it impact sit on a bolt and I mean yeah you could build more torque that way but I think they’re just trying to demonstrate how much torque you could reasonably expect

Maybe the numbers aren’t met sometime due to manufacturers just running the tool until the peak stops. At whatever length of time that may be. Be pretty interesting to watch, but a WHOLE different test, and couldn’t be put on the point charts that are currently used- since there would be no common factor- such as elapsed time (5,10, or 15 sec in these cases), since each impact separately could potentially run infinitely (or a different number of seconds each). It would seriously be nothing more than a plot of how high you could make it go! 🤔 🤔 which would still be cool to see lol

Well drivers are made for running in screws. They are tuned for speed. They are awesome for small bolts in easy to reach places. You can do the job in about a quarter of the time.
