Background Information: After finishing fourth here, they quit their jobs as a policeman and insurance clerk respectively and gained grants from. Nottingham City Council to fund them by training full time. This was when Britain was at an all time high, there were mixed emotions in the country. In contrast, Soviet Skaters were selected and bred from an earlier age until Olympic success, hence their domination (and maybe a few too many Eastern Bloc countries on the judging panel).

Many judges who should not be there. Can you imagine 3 Russian judges in the Olympics of 1994. What are your chances of winning?

@@fizzao1342 Jayne made 2 mistakes in the OSP/short program (video of which unfortunately doesn't seem to exist) that cost them the bronze. This free dance is certainly great - I think it's better than the Fame FD of the next year, when they won their first Europeans and Worlds.

@@alexac3098 crikey it’s unusual for Jayne to make mistakes, haven’t seen the OSP from here either. Their footwork and speed during these early programmes is fantastic. Great groundwork for the future

@@victoriagill3337 since the mistakes (2 bad stumbles) happened in the exact same place in 2 of the 3 OSP circuits, they speculated that she either got caught in a rut or skated over something on the ice they didn’t see.

They also finished 5th at the Olympics in 1980 in Lake Placid, NY where Scott Hamilton also finished 5th. For a pair of Ice Dancers that had to work full time jobs and find time to practice, those placement speak of their talent. After they quit their jobs and received a grant they were able to devote full time to Ice Dancing and won European and World Championships and the Gold medal in the 1984 Olympics in Sarajevo. If they were born with today"s generation of Ice Dancers, due to their tremendous drive, talent, artistry, chemistry and charisma, they would be unmatched. They could do all the others could and more!

Thank you so much! I LOVE your channel. I'd never seen the World's performance of this, just the Olympic one (with the commentators talking all the way through). This was performed so much better here than in the Olympics - so much freedom. The "Sentimental Journey" part could easily have ended up as a "Blues" compulsory dance. Love that the crowd boo-ed the marks. I believe there was controversy around the last "cartwheel", hence the Japanese judge's mark!

There are certain aspects of their skating here that are far superior to the top 3 teams. But there were still a work in progress at this time. They improved exponentially the following season which is why they shot up to #1.
