I remember watching the cage on TV and when they fired it the sound effect was much more thunder/lightning than sci Fi. But then upon subsequent viewings, on streaming services it's as if they changed the sound. Mandela effect maybe?

It was a great prop and was never used again after the 2nd pilot. Phaser rifles and Asault Phasers has been used and seen in fan medias and reimagined as well.

If you can bring them to function as we saw them, sustaining +500 shots at combat lethality, I would like to order 1 million for Ukraine, and another thirty million for NATO members.

I’ve noticed a certain portion of the fandom doubling down on the “TOS Only” mindset as some kind of weird protest against the newer content. I’ll just go ahead and keep enjoying the 53 years of post-TOS Trek that you guys hate so much.
