The Tosa Inu is world renowned for it's fighitng prowess. The breed has been Japan's National fighting dog shortly after, it was developed between the period of 1868 and 1912 by crosses with the Kochi (a local Japanese breed), native Shikoku fighting dogs, with Western breeds such as the German Pointer, Mastiff, Great Dane, Bulldog, St. Bernard and the Bull Terrier. Tosas were often referred to as the "Sumo wrestler of the dog world.

I wish more breeders were like this. Responsibly removed dogs from his breeding program that showed potential issues. Respect for this guy.
@swappedoutZ71
@swappedoutZ71 5 жыл бұрын
Chau Tran those hip issues are a bitch. I think there is a way to prevent it though, or at least prolong the onset. Takes alot of working out for the dog focusing on hind leg muscles. I notice alot of dogs with hip issues have small looking hind legs. My pup has thick hind legs, he spends about 30min a day dancing and walking on his hind legs and a bit of stair climbing. I think that is a major help for the hind leg muscles
@alantaylor6691
@alantaylor6691 2 жыл бұрын
@@swappedoutZ71 What breed/type is your pup that spends 30 mins a day walking on it's hind legs? Maybe I'm not interpreting it right, but regarding the prevention of hip issues by working out their hindquarters from an early age, other sources seem to say the complete opposite, in that say with a mastiff breed that is prone to hip issues, they say to take it really easy on them in the first 12 months or else it may exacebate the issue very seriously in life. For example in the first 12 months no stair climbing, having it climb up onto the couch, etc.
@swappedoutZ71
@swappedoutZ71 2 жыл бұрын
@@alantaylor6691 he's a jack Russell, little thing does nothing but jump up in the air every time he sees me and dances around on his back legs for me to give him high fives. Being a smaller dog of course hip issues aren't common in them. If you know anything about jack Russell's you know I'm not even exaggerating. They have unlimited energy. Jack Russell also haven't been watered down by people wanting cute lap dogs, and that's where a huge part of genetic deficiencies come from. Removing dogs from the breeding program who have issues is an excellent way to help combat the issues that are a result of poor breeding practice

Yes, he is not the miseading type of breeder who just makes his breed sound like it comes straight from heaven and will suit any lambda owner. I dislike these types of people, I think it is important more breeders are honest about every aspect of owning the type of dog they sell. In my line of work I run into countless people who got a dog of specific breed without knowing much about what they imply and end up in day to day dog nightmare.

Excellent job, Brad and Dogumentary TV with this video. Great to see the exotic breeds get some love!! I had been interested in the Tosa for years. After owning one...... well there a little meh.... That being said, I probably had a low quality dog. The biggest problem with the Tosa is acquiring good stock. As you stated, Candy probably has the best dogs in the United States period.

SpiralPulse Do NOT get a Corso as your first dog.
@dodo19923
@dodo19923 6 жыл бұрын
My corso is my 3rd dog in 5 years now. He's from old Italian farming stock, not these boxer cross's people own outside of Italy, with softer temperaments, in a nutshell he's what people refer to as 'gamebred' or 'purebred'. They're worlds apart from the corso the majority of people know and love. I have so many people say ooh nice dog i want one, i say please don't you'll just fuck something up, someone will get injured for no reason, then they get added to dangerous dogs lists. I spent months working with the old time farmers waiting for the right litter to come, and learning how the breed works before i got loki.The best lines are the old farming families in the south of italy, they use these dogs for their intended purpose, anything with a flower, badge, trophy, or fancy ribbon piled up behind it is shit in their eyes, not bashing the pets eople have but competition dogs are not what corsos are/should be. And considering they are the same dog as neo's underneath, what the show ring breeders did to the neo's is fucking disgusting. I've seen one old standard neo and they're identical to old standard corsos, being the same breed, these wrinkly things people have now are a travesty imo, again not bashing people for pet quality dogs, each to their own. The reason true corsos are so rare outside of the southern Italian farms is the guys who own them, don't breed them to sell to the world, they use them daily, for working, and after seeing the shit the last couple of generations have done to both breeds, the guys are determined they won't allow it to happen again, i got my because of the old saying "It's not what you know, but who you know". And the original dogs don't come with huge 1-2000 price tags, maybe a few hundred euro to pay for the upkeep of the dogs, its the stipulation that if if i want to breed him, once all health checks have been done, they'll go through all their dogs, find a suitable match and breed. It sounds mental hearing it, but it's a real closed off circuit of owners, and they'd like to keep it that way, i'm speaking of the cane da presa here, not the cane corso of today's world.

@mikusaurelius518

Thats true. But to each their own. Not everyone can own as many breeds as this dude owns, he owns a game bred American Pit Bull Terrier as well. To truly appreciate the game bred American Pit Bull Terrier is to fully understand and know the history of the breed, the individual dogs in the pedigree, the qualities for which they are bred, and the overall package. To me it is second to none, it doesn't matter if larger fighting breeds are able to whip a smaller pit bull...to me they are lb for lb the best and most athletic dog out there. And the ability to go for hours without quitting is their most sought after trait - gameness. Match dogs in the states are done at weight so comparing them to a Tosa is pretty difficult. You would have to have a large and game dog like Gr Ch Mayday(perhaps the most well known and best catchweight dog of all time) to stand a chance and I think he would have.

Javi Pena because this is a video about a fighting dog breed so the discussion is naturally always going to come up. Believe it or not there are people who believe dogs can enjoy fighting and if you've ever seen it you might think so too. Do you go around everywhere pointing out what you think they are doing wrong or is it just a youtube thing?

Spot on with the Boerboel comment. My boy is always under foot. Very needy, but in a good way. I prefer a dog that loves his humans since I have young kids. I may have an exception to the rule but my guy was pretty darn active as a pup. I had to slow him down a bit as it is recommended not to allow them to over exert themselves while young.

Ye definitely 10-15 years verg good for a large mastiff. And I have the same theory behind their health. A dog unable to perform well in fights are basically culled and in order to have peak level performance on fight, they must ne healthy, the unhealthy ones died off.. making the gene pool healthier.

Warning. Both my male and female were high energy and very aggressive, especially toward other animals. Every other animal existed just so they could kill it, they believed. They would chew through or head butt down an eight foot wooden privacy fence to try and get to another dog. They were a constant potential liability and intimidated any visitors to the house. They loved and protected my family but they were not to be trusted around people outside the family.

People are being such idiots right now! I don't freaking care if the pitbull or the tosa is the best fighter because you're only making stereotypes even worse!!!!!!

Charlie And Lola and Hazel too! pitbull hype is retarded, and pitbull fanboys are delusional...pitbulls are great dogs, but there strength isnt anything out of the ordinary...there what you would expect out of a muscular 45-60 pound bully breed...

Of those choices, since the Tosa and Dogo are not guardian breeds, I'd choose the BK. With that said, the BK wouldn't be my first choice.
