Anointing Jesus feet with an expensive oil was an testament of immense love for Him. When compared to what you described you did with talents that you were blessed with, the two actions do not measure up because you made the selfish decision to waste food as opposed to using it to glorify God. Tell me, how was God glorified in a tomato fight? You could have given that gift to a food shelter, or given it away with evangelism material which is desperately scarce today. He said he gave to everyone in the neighborhood and congregation, and the abundance was still much going to waste. It is hard to imagine this man chose to waste before giving nearby shelters. That being said it is easy to say you should have done this instead, but if everyone gave a neighborhood like this man, Hunger would not exist. So if I go to TN the entire state should have been a recipient of free tomatoes. Not even the city where he resides will make this claim. The point is God does not bless us to waste and no matter what baseless conclusions you draw, the waste of tomatoes was a sin. When you feel that you've given enough then go to the cities and the poor areas and you will find that what you believe you have given the reality is that you have not touched the surface.
