Nice. Proud of how young you all are and not falling the norms of our society. The journey to debt free loving is nice. I think once you fall into the " I want want everyone else has," it's harder to break out of that cycle. The number of panels you got for the price are good. Proud of you all for making wise decisions. Look forward to seeing what else you all will do with your lives. Stay focused and don't give up. You all have a good thing going especially for your ages.

Ah youth, glad you are doing what you enjoy. I am 71 and just put in a larger system for about the same cost per watt. Twenty four 460 watt panels, two 6500 watt inverters, 20 kWh battery rack, plus all wiring, $19, 500. Off grid system but I do have a grid connection, I used a transfer switch to change back to grid power if my batteries get too low.

Very nice. I also built a system for $15,000 11k solar, 2 5k inverters and 4 14.3kw battery banks. Off-Grid Garage aka Andy just did a review on new EVE MB30 and MB 31 cells. For $2500 you can get 30kw of battery if you can build your own That includes 2 BMS's. He has links to where to buy from (China) on his personal website but links to it are on KZfaq. I will be ordering those and 2 more BMS and another inverter all for $3500. I am adding more solar and using inverter as MPPT controller and those 2 battery banks of 15kw will be on new inverter separate form other batteries since others are 280ah and new ones are 306ah. Its about me getting off grid from electric then from Natural Gas in 4 years.

As they say "Good Enough is the enemy of Better". I think you're doing it just right. The prices of all this kind of stuff are plummeting. As your needs grow, you'll probably be able to add to or replace much of it without a huge sticker shock, especially when you take the modular approach, as you have. Don't forget to watch out for tax incentives, too!

Great update, we have the problem with our local electric company they have three poles on our property because of the easement, I’m hoping one day to be where you guys are off grid , they charge us a $10 customer fee transmission fees , fuel fees and the power fee and we pay property taxes on that easement we can’t even use , you guys are doing great , hopefully one day we can tell them to get the poles off of our property living totally off grid , love your channel keep them coming

Hi Summer and Cody! I enjoyed the vid and did also look at the other you recommended. I am on grid and also have a 5KW system that we did mainly to reduce our electric bill. My system is about 12 years old now, permanently roof mounted on my 22' X 68' shop. Due to it's age the cost was considerably higher than today, yet, it paid for itself in less than 6 years. Todays costs would be far less and the payback very quick. Thanks for the informative video. Have a great week. Larry, Central Valley, Ca.

Looks like a really good system, and I appreciate you itemizing things and sharing your thought process. The one question I have for you is whether you're seeing optimal output from your solar panels due to the trees around them. Even a small shadow on a part of one of the panels can cause a considerable loss in efficiency. I wonder if you might end up putting them on your roof on in a clearer area. But from the looks of it, you're in a forest, so that might not be possible.

Good decision on going solar vs power company! I know that a lot of naysayers are dissing solar, but just wait until the roof falls in on them someday and they're w/o any power for a LONG time, heheh! At least you won't have a crew of "snoopy" so called linemen traipsing through your property while claiming that easement as their own for whatever reason. Your set-up does remind me of a knocked down version of Ambition Strikes (which is major overkill for most folks) but for your plans quite adequate. Well done and thanks for such a succinct breakdown of costs vs grid power costs.

Question 🙋‍♂️ are you running the generator to just power your house or to just charge the batteries? With my setup. I use my generator with an 100amp charger to charge the batteries. Till they are charged. Then hopefully the next day the sun can charge them up. but if not, then I need to use the generator again. I try to use the generator no more then 4-6 hours. That’s enough time to charge the batteries from 20% level. But I also have two small Ryobi generators that I use with an 18amp charger. I always use the Ryobi’s because that use less gas and they are much quicker. Great job in your build.

I got 36 400w/500w bifacial solar panels in January of 2024 for $3600 free shipping. Lets say your panels are producing 3000 watts per hour and you are using 3000 watts from the inverter, that is a break even, no charge to batteries. Can never have enough solar panels. How cold does it get there? You don't want those lithium batteries ever getting below freezing. Any charge or discharge below freezing will destroy them all.
