Ah yes. Summer movies of 1989 were really popular, so there was a reinforced craving for the next summer. It just happened to have a lot of really violent, profane, action-packed, R-rated films. Paul Verhoeven really went to the limit with this like he did with "RoboCop" (and that movie's sequel came out that same summer with some excellent excess.)
@boxcarhobo7017
@boxcarhobo7017 Жыл бұрын
'Half the movies.' That's cute. You're only off by half. Now double it. Rob Lowe said not only was coke on every set in the 80s, but it was an open secret and everybody not only did it , but were under the belief that it was good for you. Yeah, you had to be on drugs to believe that one.

"Doug, honey... you wouldn't hurt me, would you, sweetheart? Sweetheart, be reasonable. After all, we're married!" [BANG!] "Consider that a divorce!" I think the entire movie happened. There's a couple of scenes that occur where Quaid is nowhere in sight, how does he know they took place? Fun Fact: This was one of the last major Hollywood blockbusters to make large-scale use of miniature effects as opposed to CGI. It was also one of the first major Hollywood blockbusters to use CGI (mainly for the scenes involving the X-ray scanner) and have it look good. Hot Stone Fact: Arnold Schwarzenegger was so impressed by how much dedication Sharon Stone had in training for her character role and was later inducted into the Stunt Woman Association as an honorary member. So proud of her physique, Sharon Stone posed nude for 'Playboy' magazine, showing off the buff body she developed in preparation for the movie. Sharon had pumped iron and learned Tae Kwon Do. Nice Quaid Fact: Arnold Schwarzenegger noticed that Michael Ironside was constantly on the phone between takes. When he broached the subject with Ironside, he was told that he was phoning his sister and that she was currently suffering from cancer. Arnold immediately brought Michael to his trailer and they had an hour-long, three-way conversation with Ironside's sister about what exercises she should do and what kinds of foods she should be eating. Ironside has never forgotten Schwarzenegger's kindness and neither has his sister.

I don't think it's absolutely 100% clear that the movie was real or Quaid's "ego trip". If you were to ask me for my opinion on this politely with a gun to my head 😉, then I'd say it was real, with the hard evidence being how Quaid's "wife" and "coworker" looked at him suspiciously just after he left, in addition to all of the other things we were shown that Quaid would not have seen (so how could they be part of his implant?). The only thing that gives me any serious doubt is that Melina appears as an option at Recall. Why would that be? Maybe she was a model before going to Mars, but it'd be such a huge coincidence if the story really happened--possible but highly unlikely.

Based on a short story by Philip K. Dick, who also wrote a book "Blade Runner" is based on. Hollywood has done a lot of his stories ("Man in the High Castle", "A Scanner Darkly", "Minority Report"). He was an amazing Sci-Fi writer and a heavy LSD user (shocker).

The main reason I think the events of the movie "really happened" - take a look at the main character, and listen to his voice. Do you think it is more likely that he is: a) a regular construction worker with the last name Quaid (the Celtic heritage really shines through!), or b) a trained killing machine with the last name Hauser? This question answers itself, my friends.

One of those movies in the “golden era of Arny” that was just pure Arnold. Beautiful women, cheesy one liners and action galore. It’s just sad to think in a world that advanced, those poor bastards still had to use jackhammers to break rocks on earth. The rework of Total Recall did pay homage to this one and I hope, when you check it out, you pick up on the references. Look forward to also seeing you as 007!

Too bad, he didn't say something like, "Oh, there's no weapons allowed, which is why I had to disarm you" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Finally, I'm with you ... if Sharon Stone was my wife, pretend or not, I'd be, "Yes, honey ... whatever you say ... just hope I don't have a relapse and THINK I'm a secret agent again. “See ya at the party, Richter!” is probably my favorite Arnold one-liner. Just the absolute disrespect of saying that while tossing a man his own severed arms. (This level of violence and gore just doesn’t seem to happen outside of the horror genre anymore. Starship Troopers was probably the last hurrah for hyper-violent action films.) And the cast! I’ve never seen Ronny Cox or Michael Ironside phone in a performance; they are there to *act*, damn it! You should watch anything they’re in. The movie may or may not be good, but they will do their damnedest to entertain you. This is one of my top five movies of all time. So glad to see you react to it.

19:19 They had the Hilton in _2001: A Space Odyssey_ (1968). Then again, they also had Pan Am, so you can’t always get it right. 🤷‍♂️

Great reaction man,... This movie is nostalgic for me, found it on VHS somehow around 7th grade and watched it. Way too young to watch this movie. Buuuuut,...I did. Always gonna have a place in my movie-heart. Peace and blessings to you and them beautiful four-legged angels.

Sharon Stone would have had me too. This movie set up my elation for the Basic Instinct movie years later.

This is the first I noticed that Kuato's hands are exact same shape as the alien's. BTW if you make that t-shirt we will buy it. That is top 10.

The real mind blowing idea is, was it real or was the whole just the memory they implanted?

The difference between, "I'm not talking to your stomach, Baby." and "I'm not talking to your stomach baby." I heard the first, then realized it was the second.

That was Sharon Stone and yes, she'd have gotten me too. For more proof, watch her in Basic Instinct. And you should check out Arnold in Eraser. It's another pretty good action/adventure flick. Or if you want another "mess.with your brain" movie, check out Strange Days.

Love your reactions--I'm working my way through your backlist. 🙂 So...whistling. My personal method is to press my tongue flat against the back of my bottom front teeth. The tip of my tongue is at the top of my gums, then covers / blocks the gap between my front teeth. Then you just pucker your lips / cheeks a bit (the advice about making the Q sound is great--you want your cheeks kind of sunk in) and blow, making sure your tongue stays put and your cheeks stay puckered. Hope that helps! Let us know how it's going. 🙂
